The following morning came about quickly and this was the day I was going to start my new academic and social life at Summit High, I took a quick shower and spent much of my time pondering on what to wear, somehow I felt the pressure to make a killer impression with my dressing and looking at my clothes and thinking about going to Summit High they all looked like old clothes to me. I finally decided to just be me and not to stress too much, for crying out loud I was just going to school and not going to a date or something! I went downstairs to have breakfast, dad was already done and was having his breakfast while reading the newspaper. "Morning dad", "Morning son, are you ready to take on the new day at your new school?" he said. "Not exactly, you can never be ready for such things especially when you going to Summit High". "Now you're just being dramatic, it's a good school and I'm confident you will maintain your performance in school work and even do much better and put yourself in a fast track in getting that car." "It's not the school or the teachers that am hesitating to meet, it's the other students dad, rich kids are quite irritating at times and that's the last thing I need at this moment." I know that sounded stereotypical but you need to understand that I once lived that life and somehow I still did, the irritation I saw in my mother's eyes that day in the diner was the same thing I saw in some of the kids with wealthy parents and I just knew that Summit High would have these kind of kids in large numbers. Dad looked at me with a concerned face and said in a caring voice, "Don't worry yourself son, you will be ok, no one will bother you and if they do, don't mind them because they have nothing on you." It had been long since I heard my dad say such words in such a tone, he was always all fun and normally told me to handle things my way, so as to be "a strong man", he said. "Here's your breakfast", Sheryl said as she placed a plate in front of me, it had been long since I had a proper breakfast, eggs, bacon toast and a hot cup of coffee. "Thank you Madam Sheryl, I was dying to have a proper breakfast!" she smiled at me, winked then disappeared into the kitchen to finish up her chores. "Eat up son and I will take you to school but only for today, tomorrow you will go on your own or take the school bus.", "The car is ready to go!", shouted Jack as he walked into the room, "Just make sure you top up the fuel before you go too far coz we don't want you to be stranded in these silent roads of Paradise", " and he said this place was getting quite without me, looks like you're loud enough for the both of us Captain Jack Sparrow.", "hahahaha nice one kid, Jack Sparrow I like it". "Ok you two lets go I have to be in my office early this morning, need to work on this new software am developing before I go to china for production", my dad barked as he walked to the front door. "Yeah sure thing dad, when are you leaving for China?", "In a week or two, we need to keep up without competitors but don't worry if I go it will be for a week maximum." I smiled when I heard that he was going to be gone for a week, it was not going to be too long at least.

We got into the car and we were on our way. I had mixed feelings about going to this school, a part of me was eager to get started with this new venture in my life and the other part was weary about starting the venture at Summit High. We arrived at the school and it all seemed much real now, I was going to Summit High! "Ok son here we are, be good in class, make friends and you will be ok, trust me." I looked at my dad and said in a low voice, "seriously dad, easier said than done", "You will be fine call me if you need anything and I will come running". If life was easy as my father made it out to be, well I don't think we would have any troubles and worries in this world. I slowly made my way to the offices, as I walked I could hear the car leaving and I knew I was on my own now. It was fairly quiet and everyone was inside their classrooms, the principal's office was just ahead but I had this feeling that someone was looking at me and it made the office seem far. The atmosphere itself presented an ambiance of wealth all over. "My mum bought me a cool ride for my birthday and she said if I do well in class work I will also get a killer party as well!" shouted out a female voice from one the classroom. This is what I didn't want to encounter but hey, you never know unless you try, my dad always said. I walked into the office and the principal was sitting in his chair. The man had a funny looking face but it was welcoming, he had lost most of his hair and his head looked like it had a runway in the middle, he was short and stout like a drum of diesel in a suit. "Hello there, you must be the new student?" His awareness was impressive, he actually noticed a new face which meant he knew every student at school, "Yes sir, my name is Mathew Thompson", I replied. "Nice to meet you Matthew hope you will like it here. I understand this is your last year in high school so I hope you will be up to speed in no time and catch up with the others." He was looking at me with great concern, I could see what he was thinking in his naked head, he probably was concerned with my status at this school, since he didn't really know my father, he was thinking that I was one of those ambitious kids who wanted to rub shoulders with the who's who of Paradise, he was concerned that I was going to suffocate in this rich kid's playground. "I'll try my level best to fit in and catch up to the others sir!" He smiled and looked at me with a funny look in his eyes as if he was thinking that am way in over my head in this situation and said to me, " Ok Mr. Thompson, here, take this and give it to your teacher and this is your time table. Be in class in time, stay out of trouble and we will get along just fine." He said this as he handed me two papers, my time table and a letter for the teacher. I left the office headed to my class, as I slowly made my way to the classroom I thought of just turning back and go home, but I just kept on going.
