Chapter 3

School went on just as usual and it was time to go home, I had never been in such a hurry like I was, rushing to my car I heard Pete and Dave calling me but I had to go. In the car I tried calling Makaila but she wasn't picking up, this made me worry even more because now I felt like she was ignoring me for my own good as well as hers. I drove quickly to her place and I saw her mum just exiting the house, we exchanged greetings and she could tell I was eager to see her daughter. She told me that she was not in the mood for visitors but I insisted that she let me see her, she agreed while putting on a worried face. I made my way to her room and knocked on her door, "Go away Matt, leave me alone, I don't want to talk to you!" She was hurt so deeply and I almost broke into tears by her door, " Look you don't have to feel so low of yourself, they are just mad at you coz they know they can't live up to your standard, locking yourself in your room is not going to help, that's what they want you to feel, and I'm not going anywhere until you open the door and talk to me!" she didn't respond, I could hear her sob in there and this was breaking me as well, her mum look at me from the staircase, she was also worried, her daughter always came home sad but this was too much, she came back early, didn't talk to anyone and locked herself in her room. "What have I ever done to deserve such animosity from them, all I want is to have at least one friend and finish high school like everyone else!, is that too much to ask! I also want to look back at my high school life and not have regrets!" Hearing this made her mother drop tears from her eyes and me, well I felt like someone had punched me in my lungs and forced all the air out of me, " It's going to be ok jus open up and talk to me I promise I will do all that I can to make it easy for you, trust me just open up Makaila!" She was silent for a while then she open her door and gave me a hug, it was like she was transferring some of the pain to me because when she hug me while crying I felt her pain as well. I did my best to comfort her and she finally calmed down, " look I know these guys have been messing with you but trust me it's going to end sooner than you think am going to turn the tables on them and they are going to be sorry trust me all will be well", she wanted to believe me but there was no reason why she could, we were talking about Frank and Mandy the two people who had the power of the school in their hands, how in the whole wide world would I be able to turn the tables on them. "look Matt I admire your courage and adore what you trying to do but it's impossible they will skin you alive trust me" She had a point but I had spent most of my life as a snob and I knew how these things work, flash a bit of cash, throw major parties and trust me you are in the big leagues and you will definitely hold a reasonable amount of power and influence.

"Look there are things that you don't know about me and my family, given the fact that we just met but there are there things about me that might surprise you and also could be of great help with this whole situation at school", I wasn't sure how to tell her who I was and what my parents had archived in life, this is something that I now didn't find pleasure in sharing with people because it always got me to think of my mother and that day at the dinner. "Matt is there something you want to tell me?" she asked me with a puzzled look on her face. "Look I really care about you and I understand what you going through and trust me when I say this, I won't let you go down this road alone." she looked at me and her looked implied that she thought I was clueless and I was going to regret being around her. "I know this sounds crazy and you probably wondering why I keep on insisting on being by you side, it's because I have never done anything for anyone my whole life and I am going to start now and trust me am not going anywhere.", she got up and paced back and forth and said, " That's what they all say Matt, I will be there and I won't let you down, and at the end they all flee coz they can't take the heat anymore and it will all weigh on me because their lives are messed up because of me and I can't take it anymore Matt, I can't!", she was crying and I could sense the pain coming from her and her mother as well, all I could do is hug her and calm her down. She was crying in my arms and I could hear her heart beat with every breathe she took and I could feel the pain as well and as for me it was too much and I couldn't begin to wonder how many times she had to go through all this and had to go back, it's not like she could transfer because she was on scholarship and also being a student from Summit High opened doors for people at colleges even when looking for a job. "Look I will not flee from this and I promise to help you out and believe me I will, your suffering at the hands of those two is coming to an end trust!", she looked at me and gave a smile but I could tell that behind the smile there was worry and a bit of confusion, if the roles had been reversed and I was her, I really would be confused too that this guy is really willing to lay on the line for me from nowhere and he is talking about going against the ruthless pair at school who literally have the whole school wrapped around their fingers. "Look I understand you have you doubts and to be honest I don't even know how I am going to tackle this issue but what I can guarantee you is that you don't have to go through this alone anymore, I am here and I will be with you every step of the way." She was glad to hear those words and she simply gave a smile and she hugged me and with great relief she said, " Thank you very much Matthew it really is good to know that someone is in my corner for once, you are one of a kind!", this was one of the best hugs I have ever received and I was glad to have made her feel good at this moment.
