I stare blankly at the wall in front of me, blocking out the murmurs of my fellow classmates. The only sound I could hear was the quiet ticking of the clock. Three more minutes and it's summer vacation. Sighing, I look at my teacher, Mr. Hayes, who was talking about the missing children in our town, Wellington.
"Just yesterday, Robert Smith went missing. If any of you have seen him, please contact the police." He advises, holding a poster out for the entire class to see. Mr. Hayes was talking about the case of missing children. They had just gone missing. There was no evidence that they were gone, the only thing you could tell they were missing is that they didn't answer their phone.
The bell rings, singling the end of the day. I get up and grab my textbooks, throwing them in my bag as I head for the door.
"Emma! Can I talk to you?" Mr. Hayes asks as I'm about to leave. I nod my head and walk over to his desk.
"Yes?" I ask. He never asked me to stay behind before, so I was curious on why he asked me to stay.
"Has everything been alright? You haven't been paying attention in class." He asks as I tug at my hair. Tugging at my hair was a habit I did when I was nervous.
"Yeah, I'm totally fine, a little tired, but that's about it." I assured him. He nods, then waves his hand to dismiss me. I head to my locker and open it, grabbing my sweater.
I slam it shut and walk outside to my best friend's car parked outside the door. I get in the passenger side and she turns to me.
"Omg, John asked me out!" She exclaims before squealing in excitement.
"What did you say?" I ask, trying to sound excited. Truthfully, talking about who dates who is boring, the reason I wasn't popular. Julia, on the other hand was popular. She was the basic blonde in every story, just nice instead of a jerk. While I was that girl with boring brown eyes and hair.
"I said yes of course. We're going to the movie's tomorrow! You want to come? We can make it a double date." She suggests. She knows I'm not dating anyone, so it'll be more like third-wheeling.
"I don't know, Jules. I'm not dating anyone." I mumble, shaking my head.
"Aw, come on. You know how I was telling you about my cousin Andrew? He's staying with us while he's in collage. Maybe you and him could go? Please?" She pouts, giving me puppy dog eyes. I groan and close my eyes.
"Fine, but you're paying for my ticket and my food." I agree as I look at her. She squeals and looks at me.
"Deal!"
