This is a chapter from a story I'm writing on google drive. it's a high school au. in this, Ink has no soul, but still feels because of his vials. when a vile completely depletes, he can't feel that emotion for a few days although the others will refill themselves every day. this chapter was when he told the person he actually feels real feelings for(nightmare) about how he has no soul. this chapter is all in Ink's Pov

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I can't take it! I need to tell someone. but for some reason, I don't think I can trust any of my friends. except for Nightmare. I could trust him, right? if he did tell someone, no one would even believe him. he is known to be a 'bad boy' in the school. lying, cheating tests, not paying attention in class, and had detention most days.

but he's not really like how most people see him. he's actually nice, smart, polite, and is pretty protective of the few people he cares about.

I take out my phone to text his brother, Dream, since I don't have Nightmares number. (DREAMMAKER-dream, INKBLOT-ink)

INKBLOT: hey Dream.

DREAMMAKER: what's up Ink?

INKBLOT: not much, but could you ask your brother to come over to my place? I need to talk to him.

DREAMMAKER: why?

INKBLOT: ...

INKBLOT: please don't ask.

DREAMMAKER: alright.

DREAMMAKER: he's on his way over, but can you tell me what's wrong?

INKBLOT: ...

INKBLOT: maybe another time.

INKBLOT left the chat.

DREAMMAKER: but I'm worried.

DREAMMAKER left the chat.

*time skip*

I'm scared to tell him, but I'm going to I thought. he should be here any minute. I heard a knock on the door. I got up and opened the door. "Dream said you needed to talk to me about something?" "Oh, yes. can you sit down on the couch, I'll be with you in a second." Nightmare sat down on my couch as I ran to my closet to get something. it's a device I invented that can sense how powerful someone's soul is, or if it's even there at all. it's small, so I put it in my pocket.

I sat down next to Nightmare. "so what did you need me for?" he asked. I took a deep breath. "I have to tell someone something, and I feel like you're the only one I can trust with this." I could tell this caught his attention. not many people trust him. but for some reason, I do. "the truth is, I've been living a lie.

I took the device out of my pocket and put it near him, it showing him a chart of his soul's power level. it was high, as expected. "What is this supposed to mean?" "that chart shows the power levels of the soul of whoever holds it. it shows base power for the soul and compares it to know. I've already programmed it with the base soul levels of everyone I know."

I took the device back from him and held it. no reaction, of course. "why doesn't it show your power levels?" "I don't have any." "what? why not?" "it's what I wanted to tell someone. what I wanted to tell you. please don't tell anyone," I paused and pulled up my shirt partially to show him where my soul is supposed to be. I started to cry a little bit, but I don't know why. "but I don't have a soul."

If you want to see the rest of the story, I'll be publishing it hopefully by the end of the year. when it's published you'll be able to find it over on Fanfiction.net under the user 'kenzothewolfdragon'

I'm planning on calling the story 'The Brightest Midnight', but that may change.
