I threw my bag over my shoulder and threw a small protein bar in with my books I would need for the day aswell as my wallet and water bottle, being that I wasn't of legal age to be able to drive yet, I had to walk to school.
It wasn't the worst thing, not only did it wake me up in the morning but it also would give me a better appreciation for just how beautiful nature was.
Ever since I was a child I found myself taking a deep appreciation for nature , the way leaves swayed perfectly with the wind on any given day without skipping a beat.
The way the birds sounded, everything just made me happy, there were times where "running away from home" really did mean just as it sounded when I was a kid.
Before my little brother was born and things got rough at home, I would often resort to outside as my safeplace.
And ever since then it's always been that way.
I counted my footsteps and made sure not to step on any cracks, and after a long while of just blankly staring at my feet I was at school.
"Laura" Owen smiled, greeting me at the door with a big ol bear hug, "Owen" I said in return and hugged him even tighter.
Owen was my best friend, he'd been my best friend since the 8th grade, and here we were as juniors, still as close as ever.
"There's a new girl by the way." Owen said softly as he held the door open for me, "maybe we can add her to our squad, it's been kind of empty you know, ever since my brother graduated last year, maybe she-"
"You know how I feel about meeting new people, especially..given the fact that you referred to us as a 'squad'" I said and raised my eye brows at him.
"Okay well, we need a third person to this group, you know to spice things up, we need a Katie to our Janis and Damien , and I know Laura, I get it. But you know, maybe she's cool."
I shrugged, maybe she would be, but I was perfectly content with how things were now, why should we change it?
"We'll talk it over, I gotta go to first, I love you girlie!!" Owen called and blew me a very very gay kiss.
I laughed and blew him one back before walking into the biology lab, I sat in my normal spot and took out my books before the teacher began.
"Welcome class, today, I would like to introduce a new student, she transferred from Florida," he said with a big smile, "meet Alex everyone."
I just so happened to glance up to see Alex, maybe this was the girl Owen had been talking about.
watching her smile and wave to the class made my heart drop as soon as I saw her, and for some odd reason my breath hitched aswell and my hands began to shake slightly.
Alex was..pretty?
She was tall, taller than a average 16-17 year old girl, her hair was blonde and pulled up into a bun on the top of her head, buzzed around the back and sides.
She wore a long sleeve black shirt with a rose patch sewn onto the right breast part of the shirt as-well as tight dark blue jeans and a pair of doc martens.
I bit my lip slightly and averted my gaze back down to my books, to avoid having a panic attack for whatever reason, I wasn't nervous about anything was I?? I mean there was really nothing to be nervous about.
"Alex, we're gonna have you take a seat at the back table by Laura, Laura honey would you raise your hand for me."
Well fuck.
I squeezed my eyes shut and slowly raised my hand, hearing her boots hit against the floor as she walked towards me never seemed to end, until finally I felt the table shake as she sat down.
I gulped and put my hand down, looking back up at the teacher, I could feel her eyes on me, I mean clearly she was concerned, I was a shaky nervous mess, from just her presence?
A few moment passed before I turned to look at Alex, maybe to greet her and break the tension. But before I could get any words out, the chill ran down my spine again and the frog in my throat came back, looking at her face to face was even worse than from across the room.
She had a look that was bored but not really, it was calming almost, it made my insides fuzzy and my heart beat a little quicker , she smiled softly at me and then turned back to the front, nibbling at her lip as she watched our biology teacher speak.
I turned to the front aswell as I rubbed the tip of my pen with my thumb, peaking out the corner of my eye at her, she was ..what's the word?
Eccentric
And I didn't really understand..why?
