𝑷𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚: Sweet Iolani; where even to begin with her? She went from a low-lying herbalist in a small village world to an explorer of the universe in, what seemed to her, like the blink of an eye.

When she still lived in her village, much of the anger and helplessness she felt at being stuck in a position that she did not ask for was taken out in the form of art. Behind the facade of countless paint-splattered canvases and beaded jewelry pieces was a girl who longed for something beyond the expectations of every day life.

She was instilled with charm and a headstrong determination from the time she was old enough to toddle about on both feet. Her mother ran a principled household of just the two of them, making sure to instill Iolani with the courage to do what is right, no matter the consequences. This backfired when she learned how to speak her mind and do so often.

In fact, it seemed the only thing she never learned to speak her mind about was her own thoughts and feelings. As a healer of the village, Iolani was expected to keep her ailments and worries to herself so as to avoid panicking those in their care. She has always tried to come across as fearless and unbreakable when quite the opposite has proven true.

Although she tries to come across as a free spirit without a care in the world, she is, in reality, quick to anger and just as quick to let you know it. Usually, this comes in the form in sarcastic quips. If something irritates her, she seldom hesitates to snap back, however this often occurs prematurely and leads to embarrassment on her end.

𝑯𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒚: To understand Iolani's story, one must first understand how she came to be, and that can be traced all the way back to a stubborn young woman known fondly (or perhaps not-so-fondly) as Kahria. One either loved or they hated Kahria; there was no room for a grey area with her, but no matter one's opinion on her, all respected her as the village shaman.

And then came a whirlwind romance. A village farmer caught Kahria's eye at a meeting one day, and that was all it took: she was captivated. She sought him out after the meeting, and that was it. Three fun-filled, soul-searching months later, Iolani was conceived.

But not all was well in paradise.

Kahria did not have any yearning to be pregnant. And she certainly didn't have the time for a baby! She was miserable when she found out, but the man was exuberant. He offered her everything he had as long as he could stay and they could be a family together. Reluctantly, she agreed.

It was only days after he found out that Iolani's father simply vanished. The entire village was in shambles searching for him, but he was nowhere to be found. Heartbroken and certain that her admission of pregnancy had caused his "sudden" disappearance, Kahria retreated into her job and only ever spoke when it pertained to her duties as the shaman.

And, as the shaman, she had a preternatural vision that her unborn daughter was to follow in her footsteps and one day fill her role.

Iolani never stood a chance, really.

She was born on a night so silent that even the frogs seemed to hold a collective breath as they listened for that first, long-awaited gasp of life. And so came into the world Iolani.

From a young age, she was fascinated by the stars, and this is displayed in much of her artwork and even in her jewelry choices. She even molded tiny star beads to make a bracelet that she wears to this day. Her artistry was encouraged by her mother, but only just. It was work before all else, and she needed to look composed if she was going to be the next shaman.

So it was always scrub up, put down the paints, and be quiet so Mommy can do her job.

And, boy, was Mommy's job repetitive.

Sure, it had notes of interest from time to time. Iolani always loved watching her mother go into a trance as she had her visions, but after a while, hearing the same ailments be diagnosed and herbs be prescribed was soul-blackening.

Plus, Iolani never had a vision. That was one thing that always concerned her. On top of feeling like an overall poor fit for the job, she never experienced the shamanic visions that came to all of the shamans before her, and she could not even be declared a "true" shaman until she had one. No, until then, she was merely known as a "healer," or even worse, "shaman's apprentice." She hated it.

She was fourteen years old when her life finally took a turn for the better.

Her relationship with Kahria was often rocky, so it was a relief when she was called away to stay with the chief for a few days while the chief was ill. Alone, Iolani was able to indulge in the artistry she loved so much without any interruption or judgement. And it was early one morning, as she picked lavender in her garden, that she was met by the trio that would change her perspective and her life entirely: Sora, Donald, and Goofy.

The forces of darkness were threatening Nook, and they were there to check things out. Excited by these strange looking newcomers, Iolani offered to take them into town, however they arrived to find buildings destroyed and people desolate and confused. They claimed that a giant "monster" had attacked, and it wasn't long after that they found the monster in question.

It was a giant flower heartless with vine-like roots that could explode out of the ground and grab onto people and objects. The trio rushed to attack and, head spinning with that sweet smell of adventure, Iolani decided to join. Having virtually no battle experience, she was quickly captured, but when she saw that Sora was in danger of being hit from behind, the power from within her heart was, for the first time in her life, unlocked.

Desperate to free herself and help him, she summoned from the shadowy archive of her heart a tool that would prove essential to her and to the light guardians' cause: a keyblade.
