In a small Florida town with a population of only 3,000 people, it seems like everyone knows everything about everyone. Or at least everyone thinks they know.
Small town gossip can be aggravating to say the least, but in a town like mine it can be the difference between life or death. This is because of drugs, the thing that could save or destroy your life.Drugs were always shunned in my classroom as a kid, shown as almost the greatest sin you could commit. Then I guess scientists came up with medical marijuana, until the government could make money off of regular marijuana.
This was when drugs were seen changing people's lives, something I wasn't used to seeing or hearing about. But my whole perspective really changed when my older brother, Kenan, got into a deadly car accident.
He didn't die instantly, but he was damn sure gonna die. They gave him medical marijuana at the hospital, and it made his last days bearable.
With my brother's death, that left only me and my father. My mother was never in my life, ran off with some man when I was only two. Never bothered me, I always had my two men in my life. The only ones I needed.
After my brother died, my father started to struggle with keeping a job. Hospital bills were rolling in, and it seemed like instead of making money, my dad was losing thousands every day.
That was when I made the decision to change my life, no matter the danger that could come with it. I got involved in the drug business, I had certain friends in low places that gave me different opportunities.
I started out with wrapping inventory for the Mexican gang; I could never pronounce the actual name of the gang, not that I cared about that. I made friends in higher places and got promoted, it took some hard ass work.
I worked from early morning till late night, and the pay wasn't bad at all. I was bringing in 3k a night; more than I had ever made in my life, only in one day. Then shit got serious after working wrapping for a couple weeks.
Now, I'm a full blown dealer. I made a friend at the highest place, the big boss: Ignacio Moreno. We met when I was being trained to be a dealer. He said I reminded him of his daughter who was in Mexico, and instantly took a liking to me.
His son Lucio, however, hated me. Not that Ignacio cared what his son thought of me, it was as if Ignacio like me more than Lucio. And I didn't mind that one bit, Ignacio reminded me of my brother in some way.
It seemed as if me and Lucio were in some kind of competition. A competition to see who would take over Ignacio's place when the time came, and with me and Lucio both being 19, one of us would be the youngest boss in town when the time came.
Right now I'm just sitting in the waiting room ready for Ignacio to call me into his office. Ignacio called me earlier today, around noon, and requested me to come by his office at 2. Something to do with a 'new job'.
"Nicki, you can go into Mr. Moreno's office now" said the receptionist.
I nod, then walk towards the big wooden doors and give them a slight push. The smell of strong cologne hit me before the smell of weed, and it made me give out a slight laugh.
"What are you laughing at chica (girl)?" Ignacio joking says.
"Oh I don't know, the fact that the smell of your cologne over-powers the smell of your own product."
We both laugh, and he waves me over to sit infront of his desk.I sit in the comfortable cushioned seats, that I know for a fact are expensive.
"So nice of you to dress up" he jokes
I look down at my outfit, and it's the same as always. Boots, boot cut jeans, a regular shirt, and a leather jacket with the gang symbol stitched onto the back. The same thing everyone wears in this town, except only that select people have my jacket.
"If you have a problem with me being comfortable while making runs, then just tell me anciono (old man)" I joke with him
He laughs a little, then looks to see if he really looks old on a small mirror attached to his desk. I giggle and then grab the orange folder off of the desk infront of me.
"I'll be back Ignacio, from wherever you're sending me this time"
I nod at him, then get up and walk towards the door to leave to start my run.
"Nicki, be careful on this one ok? Don't want my best dealer getting hurt" he says with an overprotective brotherly vibe
I jokingly salute him, then walk out of the giant wooden doors. Just another day on the job.
