❝See you distract me
But I'm distracted without you❞

⌈S⌋hielded by the truth of what lurks in Mystic Falls, Virginia, Kieran Stewarts lives her life in complete obliviousness to anything supernatural. From her parents' death to the constant disappearances in her town, they all just appear as mere accidents. Wrong place, wrong time. Her entire life is what most people in town strive for, a normal life. A normal childhood. A normal job at The Grill. She can only hope that her last year in high school is just as normal.
"Oh, fuck me." Kieran mumbled as she threw her ringing phone on the floor, signaling that it was time for school. Last year. She thought to herself as she got up from her comfortable bed and headed downstairs for breakfast.
"Morning, sunshine." Her brother, Avery, chuckled when he looked up at his sister with hideous bedhead.
"Put a sock in it, Ave." She glared while pouring her coffee in a mug.
"Now, is that any way of treating your big brother who made some gourmet eggs and bacon for your first day?" He acted hurt while handing her the plate.
"Thank you. Now, can you please hand me the vodka to pour in my coffee?" She gestured to the corner as she stuffed her mouth with food.
"Really, Kiki? It's 6:30 in the morning." He furrowed his brows.
"It's 8 o'clock somewhere." She spoke with a straight face.
"Alright, but if you're going to drink, I'm driving you to school." He smirked.
"Fuck. Nevermind then." She said under her breath after processing what he said. There's no way in hell she's going to be seen dropped off by her brother on the first day of school. She put her dishes in the sink and walked back up to her room.

"Hey, Kiera! Wait up for me!" A voice called out as she walked down the halls. She smiled, knowing who it was. The only person in the world who calls her that. Matt Donovan.
"Hey, Matt." She hugged him.
"How are you feeling? You know, since-" He was interrupted by her.
"Being hospitalized?" She raised an eyebrow at him and he nodded. "I'm fine, Matt. Really." She said with a reassuring smile.
"I don't mean to pry, I just want to make sure. You can always talk to me. We've been best friends our whole life." He rubbed her arm.
"I know. Thanks." She nodded.

"So, how was school?" Avery asked as Kieran closed the door.
"Fucking shit. The entire day was filled with, "How are you? I prayed for you every night. I hope you're doing better now. You can always come to me. You were always so happy, guess you never know what someone's going through."" Kieran mocked as she threw her bag on the ground and collapse on the couch.
"That bad, huh?" He replied.
"And you know the worst part was? Some of those people hardly glanced at me and now all of a sudden they act like they fucking care. Elena Gilbert? We haven't been friends since she became popular and today she told me we should "catch up". Her ex, Stefan Salvatore? I've had 5 classes with him since last year and he has never spoken a word to me and now he's acting like we've been friends forever. People don't care about you unless you're pretty or dead. Or in my case, close to dying." She ranted. Her brother whispered Stefan Salvatore to himself, knowing he's heard that name before but brushed it off.
