New Version of Chapter Five: Flightless Bird Called Big Bird

I sat out a couple of games to be with Nate. He was such an adorable and innocent kid, and already I’m falling in love with his eyes that were similar to Aiden’s. “Can I pinch your cheeks, Nate?” Seriously, my fingers were itching to touch those rosy and chubby cheeks of his.

He was sitting on my lap while I sat on the ground. “Yes,” he giggled boyishly and puffed out his cheeks.

Using my fingertip, I touched his cheek softly before pinching them. “Oh, God! I shouldn’t have tried that, it’s so soft!” I groaned. I know that once I started something, I’m never going to be able to stop. It was like a squishy something that you wouldn’t get tired of.

“Emmy,” he started–oh yes, that’s my new nickname and I love it. “Are you sure that girls don’t have cooties?” He looked really worried. I’ll make sure to keep Aiden and Leo into planting crap into Nate’s innocent mind. They might have done it so that Nate wouldn’t be kissing little girls he plays with, but I am a woman and I protect my gender.

I laughed under my breath. “I’m sure, squishy.” And besides if girls really have cooties–except for Ava–his brothers would have been the kings of cooties by now. “Oh, I almost forgot!” I grabbed his small hips and made my voice sound scolding, “You never get to tell me who the girl is.”

He looked down and pursed his red lips that girls are going to die for one day, “Her name is Holly. She’s my best friend.”

Ooh! Childhood love! “Do you like her?” I asked, wiggling my eyebrows, making him giggle. His laugh was infectious I couldn’t help but chuckle.

“No!” he denied vehemently, shaking his head. It’s just a normal reaction to deny that you fancy someone. Psh, Nate was just shy, but he shouldn’t be. And what if they turned out to be mates? Ah! That would be so wonderful.

For us werewolves, we find our mate anytime as long as we’ve shifted. This is because our wolf has developed and is contact to us, it is the one who tells us who are mates are.

There isn’t really any specific time for us to shift but most turn at sixteen. The earlier you shift, the stronger you are. I wonder when Aiden shifted? It was obvious that he’s a powerful Alpha. I internally purred at that thought; happy that my mate is so strong and capable of protecting me. As for me, I Shifted when I was fourteen, two years earlier.

I know how I’m going to get it out of him! I itched my hands closer to his waist and tickled him, “Tell me, Nate!”

He thrashed in my arms. “Aah! I don’t like her, Emmy! I don’t like Holly!” he screamed while laughing loudly. I think I looked like a bad woman who loves to torture kids.

“Admit it! You like her!” I was laughing along with him, and it felt… nice. I could get used to doing this every day.

“And what is going on here?” Bitchy-voiced woman said from behind Nate and me. When will this cow ever leave me alone? It’s not like I’m snatching Aiden away from him.

But you kissed him, my wolf snickered. And damn, you enjoyed it, too.

Okay, yeah, I kissed him, but he’s the one who come on to me. and I wouldn’t even have to snatch anyone away from her if Aiden acts like a proper mate. He’s rightfully mine! I growled mentally.
