Raven’s P.O.V.

My heart was thudding against my chest, as per usual when I was around him. His beautiful eyes stared into mine, and I felt my breath being stolen from me.

“Need a picture?” he murmured, his lips against my ear.

With a playful push, I muttered, “You’re so conceited.”

Blaze just chuckled and leaned in to give me a slow, heart-melting kiss. With our lips in sync, I couldn’t concentrate on anything other than him. After what felt like forever, I pulled away when I heard the footsteps of someone coming closer.

The footsteps of my grandmother.

“I have you here for a job, so stop lip-locking and get to work!” Maria huffed, her arms folded across her chest. This time she was in a black blazer, red flower blouse and long black skirt. As the usual, her hair was pulled back in some type of fancy bun that made her look like an uptight business woman.

Sighing, I pulled away from Blaze, getting back to organizing the files she had me doing. We were currently in her office--which, was about the size of my living room, by the way--organizing all of the files she kept in alphabetical order.

Blaze offered to help but his definition of helping wasn’t exactly what I was looking for.

I rolled my eyes. “This would go a lot faster if he weren’t here just sitting there staring at me!”

“Hey, that is a lot of work to do. I’ve got to keep myself from puking each time,” he teased, an eyebrow cocked.

I made a face at him and continued to work when Maria once again scolded me for not being “proactive” enough, and that at this rate, I wouldn’t get it done until midnight.

I only scoffed at her words when I looked to see we were almost done. We only had two more stacks (out of 15) to go, and it would take us another 10 minutes or so.

With that final word, she hastily left the room, muttering comments about how lazy and worthless I was.

Thanks grandma, I thought to myself sarcastically.

“Fine, I’ll actually help you,” Blaze offered, grabbing a stack of files from my hands.

Laughing, I said, “About goddamn time Blaze.”

It’s been a week or so since we’ve moved in, and we still hadn’t gone on our first date. Maria had us busy signing up for school, cleaning and reorganizing all of her offices and closets. And trust me, she had at least three of each in her mansion.

“So, what is this job even about?” Blaze asked curiously, though I doubt he was actually interested in it.

He probably just wanted to know how busy I’ll be, seeing as he will have no life while he’s here.

I shrugged. “No idea, she said she’ll explain once everything is done and organized.”

A few moments of silence passed as we both finished one stack of files, with only one more to go.

“Blaze?” I asked, tentatively.

“Hm?”

I bit my lip. We hadn’t gone to much into his past, and I respected that. But so many questions ran through my mind about him. I’ve only known the Blaze that liked to put up a front, but why has always been the question I wanted answered.

“Have you ever gone to school before?” I asked, unsure if it was an acceptable question.

To my relief, he didn’t seem affected in the least as he shook his head. “I was home schooled by a private tutor, and schools weren’t very popular back then. If I weren’t rich, I’d practically be uneducated.”
