It was only the second week since the Officers had been put into service and already crime had decreased by a significant margin. There was always an Officer patrolling a block, and in the city center where the taller buildings and wealthier people live it wasn't unusual to see groups of them patrol. It was indeed just as Theodore said, that it was a new age of police enforcement. Some people did have problems with a robot police force, but the results were undeniably positive.
Riza had been downtown on her errands, delivering packages and then getting some items for food later on. It was only when she was standing in wait for her train to arrive at one of the elevated stations did she notice that two Officers were on the same platform, and one of them was looking at her.
Although she didn't feel in danger, as they had been proven to be quite capable of telling apart an innocent person from a criminal. She held her bags tightly in both hands and held it in front of her as she rocked back and forth on her feet.
The Officer began to approach however, its heavy footsteps quickly knocked Riza out of her little daydream and she turned to face the lumbering metal giant. Stopping in front of her, the Officer crouched down to her level, with its shin clipping onto its feet for extra support.
She looked up to the robots head as its blue light scanned over her, then it spoke "Good evening. Riza Star. Have you spotted any suspicious activity going on around the. Downtown area" it spoke with a deep robotic voice that had to pause as it looked up the names of people and areas, but each time it did speak it's lights would get brighter before going back to its normal intensity.
Riza could only shake her head and held her bags close "I'm uh... Afraid not, Officer. Everything's been completely fine around here" she smiled up at the bot, but did not receive one back. To nobody's surprise of course.
The Officer simply stood back up and looked down "Good to hear. Stay safe citizen, and remember. There is always an Officer nearby to help"
She nodded slightly and sighed as the train arrived at the station, and as soon as the doors opened she was sitting down and on her way home.
When she got back home and into their apartment the first thing she noticed was everyone crowded around the TV. Rez noticed her enter the room and grabbed her hand
"Riza look! The Officers are raiding a drug factory!" he shouted excitedly.
Looking up at the screen it indeed showed at least a dozen Officers storming an old factory in the middle of the industrial district. Drone footage revealed armed men in the top floors, and a fire that was starting to grow out of control in a lower part of the building.
Riza seemed concerned at this however "How could they get such a big operation under everyone's noses in the middle of there?" she asked to no one in particular, but the footage was just even more proof that the Officers were a phenomenal success.
Flashes of light began to come from the building and gunfire sounded out, but only moments after they stopped a man was flung from the top windows and caught by two other Officers on the ground floor, who immediately handcuffed the man and put him in the back of a huge truck that was made for the Officers to travel in.
Riza only noticed now the voice of the reporter talking about the situation
"It seems that half the Officers have now entered the building with the directive not to kill, but to incapacitate and arrest. We can see that just from the speed and efficiency carried out with that first drug dealer that was flung from the top floor window... Oh oh! Look! There's an Officer carrying two more unconscious men from the building, and another behind it carrying what seems to be a machine used in the manufacturing of the substances"
Cloude seemed impressed, but also a little concerned as he sat down on the couch and rubbed his stubble
"These things are really good... It's frighteningly good. I don't doubt that they're going to use these in the military as well, and even future variations of it..." he sighed and held the side of his head "Plus what happens if one starts to like, malfunction?" he asked himself, only to be pecked by Flower "Dear I don't think you need to worry, they've been out a while now and nothing bad's happened yet" she said.
Rez was still completely hooked onto the TV. Watching with awe and excitement that he finally got to see robots fighting things like in the films.
He made gun noises as the camera zoomed in on bullet holes in the Officers chassis as all twelve Officers that went in the building climbed into their truck and drove off to the police station, leaving the fire to the fire brigade.
The sirens of the Officer's truck echoed through the city as the smoke from the burning drug factory rose up into the setting Martian sky.
Sorry for the shorter chapter ^^'
