I woke up to cold water being dabbed on my face. After a few minutes the face came into focus.
"Stacey what are you doing?"
"I'm cleaning you up" she said her voice a little wobbly. It sounded like she had been crying.
That's when I felt something being shoved in my mouth. It tasted like soup. I hadn't eaten in so long I had forgotten what food tastes like. Then I remember Stacey.
"You should be eating" I said swallowing my bite of soup.
"I'm not the one who got tortured. Besides James got word from Arec. We're leaving tonight at twelve. You need all the strength you can muster."
"I'm fine" I said trying to get up only to lay back down from dizziness.
"Yeah your wonderful" said Stacey sarcastically.
"And here I never thought you had a sarcastic lone in your body."
"Just eat your soup" said Stacey irritated.
I couldn't help notice there was something wrong.
"What's wrong? Did something happen?"
After a moment of silence Stacey spoke up.
"You told me they weren't doing anything to you" she said cradling my cheek and rubbing her thumb over where he'd had punched me and the results of it.
"They weren't."
"So having a bloody nose, bleeding ears, a bruise on your face and bruised wrist are nothing?!"
"They only did it this one time" I said weakly.
"And what were they doing to you all the other times?" asked Stacey bringing her hand down roughly and causing me to hiss in pain.
I didn't say anything.
"Was it painful?"
I put my head down even further.
Not even seconds later everyone was being called back to there cells.
I heard her sigh before getting up. "James will come get us. Everything will turn out okay right? We'll make it out of here alive?"
"I'll make sure of it" I said lifting my head up and giving her a reassuring look.
I saw her nod her head before leaving.
I don't ever remember sleeping that night. It was long and all I could do was lay there and worry. It seemed like something longer than an eternity before I heard my door open and someone come inside. The relief that flooded through me was amazing but soon it was followed by new worries. For one when I tried to get up the spinning room knocked me down off my feet.
"Shit" mumbled James rushing by my side. "What's wrong with you?"
"I guess I'm still sore."
That's when I felt someone's arm drape over me and pull me up. "We better hurry, everyone's waiting outside" said Stacey standing right beside me, helping to keep me up.
As we stopped outside I was confronted with a line of nervous looking faces with a mixture of fear. Once I stepped out there with Stacey helping to keep me up faces were sprinkled with worry.
"Alright everyone ready" side James.
They all shook there heads silently like they were marching off to there deaths which I guess in a way they were or possible were. The lights went off, the guards were knocked out and everything was going to plan, that was until we got to the elevator. That's when more guards came out and there were a few shots fired. Each footstep was like a tiny earthquake shaking our legs with fear and each fire of a bullet was like the alarm going off saying "your gonna die". Everyone was so busy fighting and there adrenaline rushing it didn't register someone might have gotten shot. No one noticed until we got in the elevator and the flame was turned on.
"Everyone alright?" asked James looking around.
I was filled with so much adrenaline that I didn't notice the aching pain in my side until everything was calming down. I clutched my side only to feel something warm and sticky.
Everyone nodded and mumbled in agreement.
Than the flame turned to me.
"You gonna be alright?" asked Stacey turning her head to look at me, not clutching my side but my arm has I leaned into it.
I knew I should have said something but at that time everything was so hectic and all we needed to worry about was getting out.
"No I'm fine. Still just a little sore."
God I'm bleeding out so much I thought. I could feel myself starting to get dizzy as the elevator dinged. Once the door was opened we were flooded with light and without the darkness hiding my wound everyone saw. There was a fuzzy noise than everything went blurry as I passed out. I woke up to someone carrying me towards a car. I also felt someone holding my hand, along with muffled voices and rushed footsteps. My side still hurt and I felt extremely tired.
"Is she going to be okay?" asked what I think was Stacey's voice.
"If we don't get the bullet out soon there's a chance she could die."
I tried to move to comfort Stacey but, the pain restricted even the slightest flinch. I was laying down with two blurry figures standing above me.
"Is there a doctor near by?" asked a blob.
"No just me" said another blob.
The last thing I remember is a jolt of pain before passing out again. I woke up to dead silence and someone stroking my hand. When I tried to move I cringed in pain.
"Don't move" said Stacey. "You got shot in your side. Were on our way to the safe house."
"So I'm guessing Arec wasn't a flake?"
"He's the one that took the bullet out."
"Where's the safe house?"
"He won't tell us. He says somewhere underground."
"Of course he won't tell us." When I looked at Stacey her face was creased with worry and confusion as she looked out the window.
I lifted my hand up to stroke her face a couple times as she leaned in to the touch before putting it back down.
"We're far away from earth aren't we?"
I couldn't help but be surprised. I wasn't planning to tell her until we were out. How in the hell did she know?
"Who told you?"
"Arec. At first I thought he was joking but, the whole entire planet is in ruins." When Stacey looked up at me it was like a silent understanding passed between us. It was like the sentence had been passed and we were banned from our home. Never going to see it again. It was a moment before Stacey spoke up again.
"There's no other planets in our galaxy so that means were a million billion trillion miles away but, how many galaxies away" she said her voice cracking on the last word.
"So you guys really came from earth?" said James.
"That's not possible" said Alex.
I couldn't help but, tense up.
"The only minds I can't read are people with powers and people who have been around people with powers for to long and become immune to it. Now I guess if I was stronger I could probably break through the walls."
"Like The Memory Finder."
"I guess so" said Alex. "Do you know him?"
"No I heard someone mention him. Thought it was an interesting name." I was grateful that Alex couldn't read my mind but I suspected he didn't need to tell if I was lying with mind powers.
"So you all are from here?"
"I'm not" spoke up someone from the front.
I lifted myself up slowly cringing in pain. I looked at everyone to see them staring expectantly at the youngest one, Danny.
"And what planet might you be from?"
"Well-"
