"I have the Orb of Noris."
I dropped my pen and turned around to see Alex standing there holding a small orb that seemed to illuminate in his hand. A mixture of relief and happiness flooded through than filled back up with worry.
"Did Arec get back safely?"
"Yeah it was a breeze. What did you need it for anyways?"
"I needed it for our next mission" I said grabbing it and putting it in a well-padded box.
"You need The Orb of Noris?"
"Did you make it back okay?" I asked ignoring his question.
"I was fine. Are you going to ignore all my up coming questions? I need to know if I should put forth the effort of asking them?"
"The Orb of Noris is for our up coming plan once we get one more thing."
"You know if we don't know the plan it might not go to well" he said sitting on the side of my desk.
I looked up at him for a moment before looking back down at my book. "I just need a little more time so I can finish something."
"You never were a good liar. I've noticed something's up everyone has. Theres something else going on and it has nothing to do with the mission of killing Charles. I know your the leader and all but keeping the team out of the loop isn't going to do any good."
"I'm just waiting for the right time. I'm glad you all came back safe though."
"I'm starting to think keeping secrets is a habit of yours."
I didn't know what to say and was tempted to tell him until Stacey walked in.
"Alex, the monitor is acting up again."
Alex glanced at me before sighing and getting up.
Sometimes I hated this more than anything. All I wanted to do was give up. Curl up in a ball an let someone else do it and stop having this feeling that I'm being crushed by waves causing me never to get enough air. I closed my eyes trying not to let tears fall down my face and replacing these thoughts with trying to remember where I had last left off. Right Danny...is...talking about....his planet.
"Well I'm from Galateen."
"I've heard of that" spoke Arec from the front not taking his eyes off the road. "It was said it was destroyed quite a long time ago."
Everything went silent before James spoke up. "I did hear it was beautiful though, like how are planet use to be."
"I was two when my parents told me how there grandparents had left for refuge ,but they would tell amazing stories there parents had told them." I could see Danny's eyes light up with excitement has he was remembering what his parents had said to rely back to us. "They said that each tree was a vine of sparking evergreen with little specks of stars placed in them that would reflect clear blue glass that made up the sky. There were desert that my grandparents swore were just heaps of magic dust that had been dropped onto land because it would always shimmer so faintly and lakes that were so blue you could have sworn that they grabbed chunks of the sky and somehow turned it into liquid to fill giant holes in the ground. The best part was the grass and fields though because it felt like you were walking through silk and each strand of glass was an elegant smooth shade of emerald green. As you went father into to our tin units 'which would I guess be your "citys", you could see tall tin holders made out of all kinds off medal hold a hundred and one floors. They were everywhere in those tin units. Most of our land was made out of natural lands and only a couple of tin units existed.
"What happen to your planet?" I asked looking at Danny's eyes which seemed to turn from small stars of excitement to fading ambers of longingness.
"It was being attacked so they sought refuge on this planet and it worked out for awhile but it still didn't seem to save us from war."
"The war was a hard time for everyone" said James patting him on the back.
"Do you think the war will be over soon?" asked Phil. "It's been going on for so long. I'm afraid it will consume us all before it's over."
"As long as he does get a hold of the key" said Arec glancing at me through the rear view window.
"The key" James scoffed.
"What exactly is the key?" asked Stacey.
"I'm presuming a powerful weapon. That's how it's described in the book. There as powerful as Tusaun maybe even more."
Every went uneasy with nervousness at the mention of Tusaun.
"Who's Tusaun?" I asked looking around at everyone confused by there uneasiness.
"A guy who can mess with time and suck out people's souls" said John with horror like he was imagining it, which he probably was.
I'm pretty sure Danny was about to say something when I felt us swerve roughly to the right. A stinging pain shot up my side and I couldn't help but cry out in pain.
"Shit" mumbled James looking out the back window. "There on us."
I pulled myself just long and high enough to see two black cars with bullet proof windows to match. Than there was another sharp turn causing me to lose my balance giving another shorting pain as I landed on side.
"I thought you said they weren't going to follow us you dochebag" said James to Arec.
"Arec your hurting Anne" said Stacey as she held me in her lap with Danny trying to close the wound.
There was another sharp turn causing me to spasm in pain before Arec spoke up.
"I'm sorry. Is my trying us not to get captured and tortured troubling you" said Arec sarcastically.
Another sharp turn and another whimper.
"It would be nice if someone tried to get them off are asses."
"Right"said John grabbing Phil.
"How?"asked Danny. "I'm still recharging from the escape."
Another sharp turn and cringe of pain. That's when Neal pulled out a gun.
"You know there something called weapons."
Through everything I never thought anyone was going to die. I had never even suggested the scenario in my head. Seeing it made everything come into play and for the first time since we've been here I realized were endanger and that we could die.
As he opened the back door to shoot at the black car with matching bullet proof windows everyone could hear the window role down. We couldn't tell who fire first because it happened all to fast, but after a couple of moments there was a thump and soon Neal was falling out the back. They were still shooting when he fell and if one bullet stopped him surely twenty were going to be able to stop us. We couldn't close the left door because the bullets were in the way so bullets were now ripping hole through everything or bouncing off something than ripping a hole through something almost including a couple of people. All me and Stacey could do was gape and pray to god we wouldn't get hit. He really died and if he could die than we could die I thought looking up at Stacey who apparently had the same thought because she had the same look of realization in her eyes.
"Someone close the door" said Arec urgently.
"How? If we put one foot over there a bullet is going to connect with it."
"Yeah but if we don't a bullets going to hit Arec and we need Arec."
Wen I blinked the door was closed. I looked around in confusion and saw Stacey was wearing the same expression.
"I ,uh, how did that happen?"
"I have no idea" I aid staring at the door.
"There still on us" said Stacey.
"I think I have enough energy for a couple more hits so I'll take care of that" said John opening up the window.
He quickly poked out his head only to have a bullet come racing at him milliseconds after he pulled his head back in. "How long was that Alex?"
"Zero point two seconds."
"Long enough" he said gathering a bundle of fire in his hands. "Tell me when there all reloading."
There was a "now" than a whirling flame of fire coming across the window moving to collide with the car. It was a mass explosion of metal, plastic and all the other things that made up a car including the two people who were inside, but it wasn't long before another clone was chasing after us.
"Shit there's more. How for are we from the base?"
"Not far but they still could catch up to us."
That's when there was a shattering noise and glass was raining on the floor.
"I thought you said you could get us out alive. I kept my end of the bargain you asshole" said James furiously.
"Will you shut up?" he said annoyed ,turning a sharp corner.
Another searing pain went up my side. I gave out a spasm of pain before the gun shots sounded up again. Then we came to a planted stop and a hard one at that. I felt someone help me out of the car. There was bright sunlight before everything went into focus. Wow it really did look like wasteland. The road seemed to scatter and disappear. The roads were nothing compared to the buildings which didn't even look livable since most were missing pieces. The only thing that made it worse was that they made it seen like it was livable. It was like trying to cover up an ugly color so you mix it with a pretty color hoping it will turn out pretty but you just make it so much worse. The buildings full of dead flowers ,tattered sheets and broken windows seem to go on for miles. There were four black cars with matching bullet proof windows surrounding us along with two men who had uniforms to match with the cars.
"You all will be taken to prison. If you struggle we have the authority to kill you."
It was so silent I could have sworn I heard someone rustling in the background. I looked around seeing that Danny wasn't even there. Before I could even finish the thought of where's Danny I saw Alex's hand twitch then John throwing a flame of fire out of nowhere. After that Arec shoot first with the returning fire of the men in uniforms. I saw a man in a uniform drop as a bullet came ripping through his head ,blood pouring out as he fell to the ground while balls of flames rushed passed bullets and hit men causing than to burn alive.
"Arec what are you doing?" asked Stacey cupping me tighter.
That's when I heard Arec standing in front of my feet. "I need you to use your powers."
"I don't know what your talking about" I said, my brain getting tired. I was bleeding out way to much from my wound opening back up. Now that I'm thinking about it I should have passed out by then. That's when I heard two shots fire making me realize everyone was standing around me. I closed my eyes a little to long causing me to get two shapes right in my face.
"Anne, I need you to focus."
"M tired. I do't think tha I'm..." I felt someone shake my shoulders ,but his speaking was coming out as gibberish and there faces were two fuzzy masses.
"I don't-" I said so quietly I'm pretty sure they didn't hear me and before I got to finish my sentence ,which I'm not even sure I was going to finish it, I was being interrupted with screaming right beside me and the blaring words "there hurt" being rung in my ear.
I was scared and tired and I panicked and all I wanted to do was lay down and leave this place. I felt my body pressing against the others as a burning feeling went up and down my veins. Than I was being slammed into something before blacking out.
