Chap 7

I went to the library, knowing that Lauren would be there. Probably with the debate team or something. I swear that girl. Lexi thought she was a goody two shoes Lex is the queen bee in school, so what she says goes. She chose me and Brynn for the cheer squad and she chose us to be her friends. Lauren.... not so much. And she knew it so she stayed away when we were with Lexi.
I strode through the library and spotted her at the far end. When I reached her, I saw that she was with a group of students. And shockingly, they included Johnny.
Lauren turned and saw me. "Hi!"
"Hey." I glanced around. "What's this?"
"Oh, just a competition. You wouldn't know."
Someone snorted. "Yeah, what made you come down from I'm Dumb And Pretty Land, to join us peasants here?"

I raised my eyebrows. "Excuse me?"
Lauren glared at that person. "Kenzie's on Honor roll, did you know that?"
Johnny raised his eyebrow at this. "Honor roll? You never told me Ziegler."
"I don't have to." I snapped.
The other person stretched out his hand. "Will. Nice to meet you."
"I wish I could say the same." I sniffed and turned back to Lauren. "Do you have a minute?"
"Sure."
She moved around the table gathering up books and papers. That Will boy stared at me unnervingly. I sighed. "What's your problem?"
"Nothing." He squinted. "Are you really on Honor roll?"
"Yes." I rolled my eyes.
"Cool. It's not easy to get on there."
This took me aback. I didn't expect him to be nice about it. "Thanks."
Will smiled at me and gathered up some of the books. Johnny coughed behind me. I turned around. "Yes?"
He glanced towards the back of the library. "3rd row on the left."
I furrowed my brow. "Say what now?"
I heard a sharp intake of breath. I whirled around. Lexi was suddenly behind me. Where did she come from?
She shook Johnnys arm. "Are they there?"
He nodded, looking away from me.
I grabbed Lexis arm. "Don't."
Her eyes flashed. "You can't stop me. Annie's been doing this for months. I just didn't have proof."
My hand slipped off her arm. "What?"
Lexi turned to Johnny. "Don't let her come after me." And she stalked to the back of the room. Lauren glanced at both of us and ran after her.
I started at the papers in front of me, not seeing a thing. My breath was shallow and uneven. For months? How long had they been doing this?
"Don't tell me you're going to cry now." Johnny sighed.
My eyes narrowed. "Shut up."
I clenched the papers in my hand. How many people knew about this?
I heard yells from the back and refused to turn around. The librarian went over and kicked them out. Suddenly something occurred to me.
I whirled around to Johnny. "You knew."
He frowned. "Knew what?"
"That he was cheating on me." A pit of loathing filled my stomach. "You knew and you didn't tell me."
"Listen Ziegler." He was getting annoyed now. "I don't have to tell you anything. And Hayden's my friend, not you."
I swallowed. "No. I'm not. But anyone with a shred of decency would do it, but you didn't."
"Don't turn this on me Mackenzie." He was mad now. He actually called me by my name. "It's not my fault that you were too fucking stupid to realize that no one would date you unless they had a sideshow."
Then he realised what he said. "Ziegler I——"
"Save it."
