"I still can't believe how different that movie was from the book," Lei said with a look of disbelief on her face.

"Obviously it's not going to be perfect, it's a Wattpad book for christ's sake Lei," I responded. Lei slapped my shoulder immediately after the words left my mouth.

"Don't underestimate the power of the app dude, most those writers make more money than you and me combined." Lei walked around her side of the car before getting in, myself following right after.

I pulled out of the movie theater parking lot and hooked a left turn. I was honestly just glad that Lei would shut up about that movie now that she had seen it. She was always babbling on and on about it and that stupid Harry Styles dude. I never really saw what every other girl did in him. In my eyes, he was just another rich, self-centered popstar.

As I turned onto the freeway, Lei hooked up to my aux and selected one of her playlists. I ignored most of her music as much as I could, knowing that I would only be missing out on hearing some boy band crap. I set my cruise control slightly above the speed limit, hoping to get home swiftly. I needed to check my email from my laptop, to see if I had received any news from my apartment loaners.

When we got back to my mom's house, we walked straight up the stairs to my room. After both of us got comfortable, Lei opened up Twitter to keep herself occupied, while I grabbed my laptop. After refreshing my email inbox multiple times, it  was clear that the apartment loaners had not replied.

"I'm going to have to look for more apartments tomorrow. These loaners still haven't gotten back to me, and I'm not going to keep living with my parents. I can't keep living like my old 17 year old self," I rolled my eyes and threw my laptop onto the comforter beside me, grunting in frustration.

"Can I come with? It might help to get a second set of eyes and maybe we could even become roommates! My rent has been getting so expensive lately and I could really use someone to keep me company," Lei responded, also tossing her phone down.

"Yeah that could be nice actually. Just the other day I was looking into one of those random roommate websites. Maybe it would be better to just play it safe and live with you," I chuckled and rested my head on the headboard of my bed frame.

"No that sounds like so much fun Lorelei!! Are you kidding me? Let's just get one ginormous apartment and split it three ways, between you, me and someone else!"

"Are you sure? It lowkey sounds dangerous. How the hell would we be able to tell if the person is who they say they are? We could literally get murdered in our sleep and wind up on some documentary in 5 years," I moved my head back down to look at my bestfriend.

"Cmon Lorelei, we both know that we need to make other friends besides each other anyways, and we would obviously go out with our new roommate before moving in together."

"Okay, well let's just see if we can even find any good enough apartments in the first place." I grabbed my laptop back off my bed and searched up places in our area.

After hours and hours of binging on junk food and looking at apartments, Lei went home and I brought all of our empty, dirty plates down to the kitchen. I almost trip when I was walking down the stairs to the kitchen. Right as the dishes hit the sink and I get them out of my hands, my mom walks in the door. Her arms were overflowing with bags of groceries.

"Looks like I went grocery shopping at a perfect time," she looked around at our open pantry, "you and Lei are gonna eat me out of house and home. Have you heard from that apartment loaner?"

"They never got back to me, but I just finished looking at some more in the area online, and I have a couple tours scheduled for tomorrow. I might room with Lei or something."

My mom gave me a disapproving look.

"Lei isn't known for being the most mature girl in the bunch Lorelei. Just make sure you don't get sucked into her little daydreams. You need a steady plan. Hoping some rockstar will fall in love with you and fix all your problems is not an acceptable plan," she lectured as she started putting some celery in the fridge.

"I know mom, you know I don't actually stand by that and I'm looking for jobs a little bit too."

"Okay, but make sure you make an apartment your first priority please. We've been fortunately handed money for that so just take the opportunity that grandma gave you and run with it," she rubbed my arm as she walked back out to the car to get the rest of her haul.

My grandma had died when I was 4, so I don't have much memory of her at all. Before she died though, she set up an account for me and put literally millions into it. Because of that, I had never had a job, and probably will never need one. My apartment is paid for, and she even left me a car. Obviously that car was pretty old by the time I could finally drive, but even more luckily for me, it was some special kind of antique that we sold for plenty of cash. That bought me a new car which I keep trading in for newer models every couple of years. I've been very, VERY fortunate because of her and it's helped me a lot through life.
