Drake and Grayson had been travelling for a while when the former winced and put a hand to his head.

"Are you all right?" Grayson asked.

Drake frowned. The Earth seemed to sway beneath his feet. Something whispered on the wind.

"I heard something... something bad..."

Grayson tilted his head to the side.

"You hear voices now?"

Drake hesitated. Should he let Grayson know of what he suspected? It would probably be best to keep him in the dark for now. What Grayson didn't know wouldn't hurt him, at least not while Drake remained in control.

"I guess."

Grayson squinted at him.

"Really? Well. Does your head hurt?"

Drake shook his head. No, his head didn't hurt. Didn't even ache. He was just... dizzy.

Grayson sighed.

"Well, if you're sure. Can you keep walking?"

Drake let his hand fall to his side. He bit back a grimace and plastered a reassuring smile on his face.

"Of course."

They walked until they came across an inn. This one was run by Paganum, so no chance of being outed to the Empire.

Grayson paid for two beds, and Drake obediently followed him upstairs.

After carefully placing his bag of things down by the side of the dresser, Drake immediately fell face first into bed.

Grayson chuckled softly.

"You know, if you're that tired, you should really tell me. We can stop at any time on the road, you know."

"And what, camp in the woods? The swamp?" Drake's voice was muffled by the pillow.

Grayson hummed. He shrugged his backpack off and dunked it on his bed with a lot less care than his friend afforded his belongings.

"Whatever works."

Drake groaned.

Grayson, in the middle of fiddling with his gloves, frowned.

"You sure you're all right? Haven't got another headache, have you?"

Drake turned onto his back, fidgeting when his robe got caught beneath him. He started to take it off.

"No. My head is fine."

Grayson watched Drake's long fingers work at collar of his robe.

"Right. And you're definitely not lying to me."

Drake, to his credit, didn't twitch.

"No. Why would I lie?"

Grayson sat down opposite Drake.

The Endermen tensed. His mismatched eyes flickered up to meet Grayson's green ones.

Grayson smiled.

"We all have reasons to lie, Drake."
