ROSALIND'S DREAM

ROSALIND MALFOY HAD NO IDEA what she ever saw in Sirius Black, even if it was some silly childhood crush. He was arrogant, he was a womanizer, and worst of all, he had completely ditched Rosalind in her first year. After Sirius had been sorted into Gryffindor, he had gone completely mental along the lines of associating with anyone outside of his house. The Malfoys, however, were thrilled when their second child had been sorted into Slytherin. For the first few months of her first year, Rosalind tried her damndest for an eleven-year-old to be some kind of friend to Sirius but by the end of the year, he had flat out told Rosalind he didn't want to be associated with an "evil Slytherin".

By their third year, the Black boy had apologized but had yet to try to really amend the relationship he'd broken. The Marauders, as their group liked to call themselves, found every opportunity to torment the Slytherins. Severus Snape was the butt of most of their jokes but, unfortunately, Rosalind had found herself his position more than once. After the first three times, Sirius stopped personally apologizing to Rosalind and just left her to wallow in the fact that her fiance was, honestly, quite a git to her. She was still holding a grudge over it by their sixth year.

"I just don't understand, Regulus," the platinum blonde sighed. "He was so great when we were kids."

"I completely understand, Ros," Regulus said. For a moment, the girl had completely forgotten that Sirius had left Regulus all alone in the home the both of them had hated.

"You don't deserve him as a brother."

"You don't deserve him as a fiance." Rosalind nodded before turned to face Dumbledore as his opening speech began.

"Welcome to Hogwarts! And for those of you returning, welcome back..." Dumbledore's speech was almost verbatim from the previous year exempting some of Filch's new rules that no one cared enough to follow. Rosalind kept her eyes on Dumbledore the whole time he was speaking even as her mind wandered elsewhere and was only brought back to reality when the sorting hat sorted Alexander Archer into Ravenclaw. Around a dozen first years were sorted into Slytherin and the table stood and cheered for each one louder than they had the last. Secretly, Rosalind felt bad for those little kids as they would now, for the next seven years, have to deal with harsh judgment and generalizations simply for being sorted into the house.

"Now, let the feast begin!" Dumbledore announced and the food appeared before them. Rosalind helped herself to shepherd's pie and some roasted potatoes before noticing that Regulus' plate was completely empty and he was just staring at her.
