That night Belle's dreams were invaded by those huge, black eyes, observing her from above. Her body was cold; her hair wet. Two cold hands wanted to grab her. Belle tried to run, but couldn't in the dream. She tried to escape those hands, those eyes, but they were moving in closer to her, defining a black shadow with broad and big shoulders. Belle began to scream, toss, and turn. The hands grabbed her but they were suddenly warm. She cried while trying to escape them.
"WAKE UP BELLE!" Nikolaj yelled. Belle snapped her eyes opened. Her forehead was covered in sweat and her t-shirt was glued to her body. Nikolaj blocked her with his body and grasped her wrists, to avoid her moving.
"Let me go!" Belle hissed. "Let me go, please!"
A drip of sweat glided down Nikolaj's temple while he stared at her worryingly. He wasn't aware of how much that position attracted him until she begged him to let go of her.
He let go of his grip and Belle slid from beneath him. She sat up on the bed, shoulder turned to him. Nikolaj sat up on the couch. Belle was sobbing, trying to hold back her tears.
"I didn't mean to scare you, baby." He told her. When she started to toss and turn as if she had been possessed, trying to run away from God knows what, he tried to hold her down and wake her up. But it only made matters worse.
"It's not your fault." Belle said in between subs.
Nikolaj moved in closer to her. He put a hand on her side and kissed her magnificent bare shoulder. "You can tell me about it, if you want to."
She shook her head with her knees curled up tight to her chest a few moments more. When she had stopped crying, she lied down next to him again. Just then, she realized the soft, light hairs on his chest.
"Hold me tight, please" she begged while a teardrop glided down her cheek.
Nikolaj lied down next to her, putting one of his arms under her head and the other around her waist; then pulled her closer to him. He could feel her tremble even if she was wet with sweat. He wondered what the hell she had been dreaming about; why did the dream scare her so much? Could it have been a memory? A trauma? A fear? He would have liked to know at that very moment, but decided to let it go for another time. They lied there embraced in each other's arms until the light of dawn share on them through the half-moon shaped window. Minutes had gone by, perhaps hours.
Belle had calmed down but wasn't able to sleep. She had remained tightly embraced to him fearing that someone could snatch her away from him.
Nikolaj lowered his head to look at her. Belle lifted her eyes towards him slowly and tiringly. Her capillaries were red. She had a sad look but she was exasperatingly stunning. He kissed her forehead, then her cheeks and finally her lips. Belle closed her eyes while he kissed her. The man caressed her hair and continued kissing her sweetly.
"I'm cold" Belle whispered. Nikolaj covered her with the sheets without leaving her side. He realized her hands were cold.
He pulled her closer to him. At that moment there was a dark ocean of worries and anger inside him.
"What did you dream about?" He asked her, even if he had promised himself he wouldn't have.
She didn't answer.
"Tell me, Belle!" This time it sounded like an order.
"It was only a nightmare" she ended the conversation.
