Sliding my rather pale hands into my pockets, I continued my walk to my house through the slightly crowded sidewalks. I had just finished some business with her, my lovely best friend. A small smile made its way upon my face at remembering how excited that girl was. She went on and on about… My grin was replaced with a scowl. That bast-xx, Evan.
That guy is nothing but trouble and heartbreak. Evan isn’t exactly boyfriend material; he doesn’t even listen to her! He just tells her what to do, and it just frustrates me. I wonder why’d Kelly choose him? She could do so much better.
Hah, such as yourself? You would never have a chance with her.
I sighed softly, knowing that little voice was right. Kelly only saw me as her best friend and brother, nothing more. Just why… why not me? I’d treat her right. I’d show her how much I loved her…
I stopped walking and just stared at the wide grey sky. Every time her eyes light up when she talks about him… I wish she’d do the same to me. What does he have that I don’t?
I looked over at the other side of the street and nearly choked. Standing there with his arm wrapped around a skinny girl in a far too tight sparkly silver dress was Evan, fucking Evan. She was laughing at something he said as they walked into a building that I think was his house, which was directly next to mine.
Anger burning in me, I silently hurried into my house, kicking the door shut on the way. How dare he cheat on her when she cared about him so damn much? It took me everything for me not to go up to him and just commit murder. When I reached my room, I looked through the blinds. Evan was a big enough idiot that he left his large window open, giving me full view of his little ‘show’. I watched as he pulled out a chair for her to sit in and told her he’d be right back. Son of an xx.
Evan stood up and walked across the room to where the bar was. No one was there as he looked around with a smirk on his face. Picking out a random glass, he slowly studied the multiple rings on his tattooed fingers.
I widened my eyes in shock. He couldn’t be… He wouldn’t…
Evan raised his eyebrows and took the carefully decorated and expensive ring Kelly bought for him off and dropped it in an empty champagne glass. The diamond encrusted band clattered around when it hit the glass, making little sounds that made my heart drop. Kelly worked morning and night shift every day for three weeks just to get him that ring, and he throws it away like it’s just nothing.
A smug smile on his lips, he returns to the awaiting girl. He holds her up and twirls her, chuckling as they danced. As they dipped, Evan looked at her with such lust, running his fingers down her dark brown hair. I just couldn’t watch this anymore. Just imagining how Kelly would react if she ever saw this, killed me.
Biting my lip tightly, I released my hands from the blinds, causing it to shield me from the disgusting sight. No matter how much it’d hurt her, I had to tell her.

“No, stop joking, Cam, it’s not funny,” Kelly looked at me uneasily. I licked my chapped lips in anxiety. She’s so in love with him she can’t even see it! I can’t believe it; actually, I can, and it hurt so much.
“I saw him today with her, please believe me; he’s been lying to you,” I begged softly. Why didn’t she believe me? I was her best friend! We have been since 2nd grade. The pain in my chest doubled in size when she looked at me accusingly.
“No, he’d never do that,” Kelly was firm on her answer, her dark brown eyes starting to glow in anger. She groaned in frustration.
“Why would you make stuff up like that? I thought you’d be there for me.” Her voice dropped down softly, her furious eyes being replaced with pain, pure pain. I felt as though someone pierced a knife through my heart. I had to be strong; I had to tell her the truth and make her believe it… but I don’t want to hurt her.
