Sophia's POV

I get home and see I got a text from Ally. I'm excited and nervous. I wait a few seconds to let it sink in before texting her back.
                                         Hi Ally!!
I read your letter
About being gay and
Stuff. I get it 100
Percent. Especially
About being nervous
To come out.
She talks to me about how she's here for me and she understands and I tell her that I also understand with her secretive poem thing. I tell her about the party and we make a promise to call each other the night before.
Once she says she has to go get in the shower but she'll text me after, I put my phone down. Two seconds later, I get a text. From John.
Hey Sophia. Parents
Home?
                                         No. Why? Is
                                       Your mom ok?
Yeah. She ok.
Just wanted to
Come over.
                                                     Ok.
See u in 5.
Ughhh. Last person I want to see right now. All he wants is a little kiss and hug. Why did he break up with Sydney Williams two weeks ago if he needs so much attention?
He knocks at my door and I open the door. He grabs me by the arm and leads me to the couch, pinning me there. He kisses me, and I halfheartedly kiss back. Are we a thing now? After three minutes of him trying to eat my face, I gently push him away. He smiles, before sitting on the couch, then putting an arm around me.
He asks if it's a movie night, and I tell him I don't care. He puts on another romance movie. Half way through, I hear my phone buzz. John doesn't notice, but I know who it's from. I move out of his arms and declare I'm going to the basement to make some popcorn.
Just got out. Anything
Happen? Haha.
                                           John's here.
Wtf?
                               My same reaction.
Where is he?
                                         Upstairs. I'm
                                Making some pop
                                 Corn.
Tell him to follow
You to the basement.
Then FaceTime me.
                                                       Ok?
I do as she said and when I call her, she adds five people to the conversation. Then she starts a game of truth or dare.
"Ok." Her fried Kyle says. "John, truth or dare?"
  "Truth." He says skeptically.
"Yes. How many girls have you dated?" Kyle says, but I can tell it was planned.
"Oh, I don't know. Let's see, six in middle school. Three last year, two so far this year, well, no three counting Sophia-"
And Ally stops him mid sentence. "How many girls in the past five, not even years? 12? First of all, disgusting, second of all, I didn't know you we're dating Dia!"
I follow along. "No you've only dated 11. I certainly don't think we're dating. We've kissed twice, both times you kinda forced me into it. And we haven't even gone on a date yet. Our first real date isn't even until two days from now, which is a freaking party at your house."
He seems shocked for two seconds, before replying with. "Babe, I'm sorry. Let's just take things slow."
"Yeah, very slow." Ally leaves the room so she can laugh with out John noticing. But he does.
"What does she think is so funny?" He questions.
"She just thinks I should be with this sophomore." I reply slyly.
He shifts uncomfortably and after a few more rounds, we end the call.
He leaves five minutes later and I call Ally, dying of laughter.
"Dia, your such a heartbreaker." She chokes out.
"Ally, your my accomplice." I say, her nodding in agreement.
We talk about the hilarious response for an hour, before we realize it's 12:00 and we should get ready for bed. "Night, love ya." I say, and she smiles and hangs up.
I get to my language arts class two days later and can't help but smile at the note.
Dia and I call each other every night now to sum up our day, tonight, we are preparing for the Friday party. I write something sweet for my note.
  Dear Ally,
This is the day before the terrifying Friday! Preparing for another forced makeout session, this one just filled with beer and spectators. Hopefully I can break away from him and maybe meet some other gay people in my school? That would be a miracle. I love you SOO much New Yorka, and I hope that you get to talk to that kid you won't tell me the name of in your fifth hour next week.
  Love,
Dia.
I quickly shove everything in the envelope and rush off to class, sit through the boringness then get to lunch.
The cheerleaders and girl sports players are talking about what they're going to where, while the kids at J.L.'s table are talking about the girls they're bringing and who's going to get the farthest with one of them.  Definitely not John. I continue to walk over to the cheer/sport girls tables, but John forced me next to him.
"Hey hottie." He says, getting some of his boys to laugh.
"Wassup?" I say, ignoring his unusually thirsty attitude.
"What you wearing tonight?" He says, and I known immediately it's not anything he'd hope for. So to avoid embarrassing him too terribly, I reply, "I don't know."
He smirks while his friends whisper.  Barf.
After a few more minutes of making me uncomfortable, I tell him I'm going to go sit with my friends, sending his friends howling.
Later that day, I call Ally, so we can figure everything out.
"I don't know what to do. What to wear, what to say, how to act."
"Well, your going to wear something hot, but you can't act towards him like you want anything. It'll annoy the heck outta him."Ally says seriously.
"Ew. I hate wearing all of that type of stuff."
"I've been to so many parties before. My friends have taught me there ways. I won't steer you in the wrong direction."
"Ok." I say, before putting on a spandex red dress, a black sleeveless jacket, and chunky black heels.
"Perfect. He'll love and hate that." Ally comments on my outfit.
"Thanks for everything. I gotta go know loves he's here." I respond rushed.
  "Loves?"
  "European thing. Bye!"
I hang up and head to his car. He has two friends in the back, one of them whistles. I get in and he's drooling. Ally was so right about this.
  "H-heyy bae." He says, shocked.
"Hey, can we go?" I say unfazed. He nods in agreement and starts driving to his house.
We get here, and there are already cars waiting in the driveway. He opens his door and people start pouring in. Some hauling in a keg. Some making out on a couch. Some, who I envy, hiding in the back corner waiting for their friends to be done and take them back home. I'm not allowed to hide from the terrors.
After a few minutes, he asks if he can get me a drink, and I decline before trying to walk off. He grabs my hand and pulls me to a couch. No, no, no.
"What happened to taking it slow?" I say, not even thinking about anything else.
"Right, right. Slow." He says, getting off of me and leaving me alone.
He spots some kids trying to break a vase and runs over, freeing me from my leash. I practically run away from the spot.
As I walk around, I realize that there are gay people at my school. Damien, for example. He is dating Jake Garnoff. And Jenna, she's dating Carole, a girl from another school. But they are known as social outcasts.
For an hour, I just sit on the porch step, watching the night grow darker, occasionally glancing at my phone. No texts or calls.
At about 11, I get up and spot a few of my friends looking about ready to leave. I get up to ask for a ride with them. And I feel some arms go around my waist.
"Hey baby.". It's John. He got wasted.
"John? What are you doing? I told you.." he put a finger to my lips before turning me around.
"Come on." He says kissing my neck.
"No, John. I'm going home." I say, trying to wriggle free.
"You know I broke up with Sydney for you. I think we should go find a couch."
"John, I'm not kidding. Get off me, now." I start to get panicky.
" Just a little while, babe." He starts kissing my face everywhere. I start punching and kicking, but it does nothing. Damien comes over.
"Dude, get off." And with that, a fist is in Damien's face, and that same hand gets wrapped around me.
I'm anguished. I kick him in his crotch. Hard.
"I warned you John Logan. This is over, don't talk to me. Don't come over my house. Don't even try to get me back." I say, before turning to tend to Damien.
"Oh my god, he's such a jerk. Let me help you. You didn't have to do that. I'm so so sorry." I say, frantically, as I help him up. He has a black eye.
"Hey, we gays have to help each other."
"W-we what?" How does he know? What does he mean? Who else knows?
"Yeah. Everyone has known since that post on Lily's instagram. The one with all your letters and texts. She's telling everyone you came out to her." He says, all of the sudden, eyebrows furrowed.
"That didn't happen- h-how did she g-get th-the n-notes?" My head hurts. I feel weird. I take a breath. I steady myself. I have go get out of here. And call Ally.
"Let me take you home." Damien says. I allow him to. I get home and call Ally. No answer.
                                      We need to talk.
