Journey to the Mysterious Island

Chapter 3

I come back a few minutes later to see a note on a rock. 'We're going to Nemos grave.' But why would they go there? The people that rested him there told me not to let anyone in, it was a sign of great disrespect. They also told me that they set up traps for anyone who dares to enter it.

I knew I shouldn't of lead Alexander to Nemo but, I really wanted the old man to meet the man who also helped me like he’s doing. Well, now I can finally speak to him since I know his language about going in there. Hopefully, I'm not too late, I thought as I ran through the jungle to get to Nemos resting place.

This had been one of the fastest moments I've run in a while, the last time was when the last strange man came and then left me alone. I told and taught him everything I know, he said he would help me off the island. He lied. These people are different, I know they are. They won't leave me as the rest have.

Getting there, I found them huddled around a hole. I counted that they were all there, but was tying a vine onto Kai (Kilina). Running up to them, I pushed Hank away from her and began to untie Kai furiously. Which made her gasp in shock.

‘I'm sorry if I hurt you Kailina but I will not let you get hurt in there’ I thought to myself. 'No I will not let this happen. I will not let them see Nemo, I will not let them go in there and probably die.'

It was a bad idea to show Alexander Nemos resting place, there was a reason he stays in there and I will not let them bother him.

"Rai what are you doing? We need to go in there." Alexander questioned me, as he reached out to grab the vine from me.

Moving away from Alexander quickly, I grab onto the vine and hug it to my chest as I shouted in his language.

"No!"

Alexander was shocked that I had yelled at him, I never yelled at him before because I had no reason too. This is reason enough, I hate to do it but I can not let him do this and ruin Nemo’s rest. Nemo will probably get mad at me for even allowing them near his hiding place.

My eyes widen at this and I hug the vine tighter, feeling guilt rush through me. No Nemo will be very unhappy with me if they go in there. I could see Sean step towards me, he reached for the vine and said softly.

"We need to get Nemo's journal. Give us the vine."

"No!" I shouted thinking of all the words Alexander has taught me, it's time to use them now. "Nemo will be disappointed in me! They will be disappointed! I can not let them down! So, no!" I shouted at them, going over to the hole and covering it with my body as I looked at Alexander. "It was a mistake to let you come here! He'll kill me if he knew!"

Turning towards the hole, I wondered if I woke him up. Feeling guilty I rested my hand on the rock.

"Nobody else is on this island except us Rai, nobody is going to kill you," Hank told me, as he walked forward slowly as if I were a wounded animal. "And if someone were to try, we'll all stop them okay?"

"No, it not okay!" I shouted at him, turning around to them as I shouted more. "That! That! The man said the same thing!" I felt tears start to fall down my face, as I thought of him. "I.....trust him with the secrets of my home. He told me.......he told me I will come to a new home, that....that I won't be alone." I cried out, as I thought of his kind words even more. "He's gone without me."

I fell to the ground, leaning against Nemo's hiding spot. I wiped the tears away with my left shoulder, feeling the loss of losing my home. Secondly of Nemo and the others.

Then finally my last friend reminded me of my church (father). All of them left me alone on this island. All I had was Pip and Merp, they were the only source of friends I could find. They were the only thing that stayed with me throughout everything, even when the island began to change they stayed as we all became rocks.

Feeling a peck, I look to my shoulder and found Pip. Her eyes showing concern as she nuzzled my cheek, I could feel Merp wrap his trunk around my left leg. Feeling a hand on my other shoulder I looked up and was face to face with Kai, she had tears in her eyes as she brought me into a hug.

"We will never leave you, I promise you this we are best friends aren't we?" She whispered in my ear, as I felt something wet on my bare shoulder.

"What’s a promise?" I questioned her, as she pulled away from the hug.

Kai smiled softly at me as she told me.

"A promise is when someone keeps their word, and I never break mine."

"You promise?" I questioned her again, as I felt began to cheer up. "You won't go without Pip, Merp and I?"

"Yes, we promise," Kai told me again, making me smile weakly at her. "But we need Nemo's journal or we will all die Rai."

I frowned at this, I don't want them to die that's for sure. Maybe Nemo will think the same thing, once I tell him this and we both can get off this island. I mean he's rested enough these past few years, hasn't he? I mean my old friend that reminded me of the church didn't get the chance to meet him, but these guys might.

I just hope Nemo will not be unhappy with me for interrupting his resting, but I can't let Kai go in because I remember the last time Nemo met someone he did not know.

He tried to kill me when we first met. He noticed I was just a small child (10), he just looked me up and down. He smiled and told me in his own language to not be afraid to trust him, he even offered me his hand. At first, I was confused and ran away, I could still hear him chasing after me. But when he finally found me, Nemo saw me at my home and how I picked up a rock to protect it. That's when he showed me his Niva (wife) the next day, his Niva was very pregnant (pregnant) and that was the day I trusted him.

I haven't seen his Niva or his Chua (son) in years, I wonder how they are faring? Maybe Nemo can finally see his in (family) again, maybe I could see my friend that reminded me of my church once again. Be with him once more as well, looking at them I nodded my head yes as I told them.

"I go, stay."

They tied the vine around my waist, I walked up to the hole ready to go see Nemo once again. I was stopped by a hand grabbing my wrist, looking up the arm and to the face, I found it was Sean. Confused I tilted my head to the side, waiting for him to say what he has to.

"Stay safe." He said, giving me a smile as he let's go of my wrist.

Nodding towards him, I turn to the hole and placed my hand on the rock again. As I whispered to Nemo.

"Even nu yeh are." (Forgive me, old friend.)
