maybe we're all growing up too fast today
the kids are alright, but so focused on getting out
independence is a dream, they say
they dream of living on their own with a dog and a roommate in a big city
with flashing lights and action every step you take
our parents never raised us right, they're so focused on their own time
we developed criminal minds devoted to drugs and sex
how were gonna get our next fix or our next fuck
but what the fuck happened to afternoon cartoons and watching baseball with dad
what ever happened to cheesy dates at the movies and picnics at the park
15 years old and i've never had a summer with water balloon fights and cherry coke cans
or winters spent in front of the fire snuggled real close to my mom and my dad
now it's all just sex with strangers and breaking the law
glass bowls of herbs and thin white lines
tabs that make your brain melt to putty and blowing money or getting blown
and maybe that's the life you want, go ahead
but maybe we're all just growing up a little too fast
