Yuki -
"I kissed her," I mumble, mostly to myself. I hear the truck tires squeak, and Will swerves off the main road and onto a smaller dirt road.
"NIGGA, YOU WHAT?" He yells, steadying the truck as we hit a pothole, my ass nearly flying out of the seat
"Will!" I roll my eyes at him, both at his use of wording, and for his driving.
"Sorry, I got excited." He says, before leaning in my direction, eyes still on the road, and quietly whispering, "Nigga, you whattttt?"
"I kissed Naomi. Or she kissed me? I think it was one of those: we kiss each other at the same time thing," I ramble, tugging at my seatbelt to make sure it's tight enough.
"It's called consent, Yuki," Will jokes, and I roll my eyes.
"But afterwards, we kind of just. Talked. And held hands. And kissed. Oh my god, Will, we kissed as much as PDA could be allowed," I ramble once more, before clearing my throat and putting a finger to my lips, still slightly puffy.
"You know, I could have driven there and back on my own," I say, and Will waves his hand dramatically in front of my face, as if he was telling me to go away.
"Then how the hell could I hype yo ass up about the date? Calling while driving is dangerous. Plus I had to go to the mall anyways. Perry Johnson series came out with a new book today." He clears his throat before I can tease him, already moving on.
"So when do I get cute blasian babies with cotton candy hair?" He jests, and I blush in response, rolling my eyes.
"To answer your question, no I don't know if we are dating yet. I mean sure we made out a lot and I'm kind of sure she's my match, but-" Will pulls to a stop, quite literally stopping the car at the edge of the road.
"Yuki, thats- if she really is that's incredible! How do you know, how can you tell??" He asks, shaking my shoulders as his glittering eyes met mine.
That was the thing about Will, when he was really excited, his eyes glittered. Not like a simile or metaphor, no. His eyes lit up brighter than a vampire in direct sunlight. It was great, because I could tell when he was genuinely excited.
"I- I don't know. Maybe she wasn't my actual pair, but I was just really horny but-I felt this pull to her. Like I needed to-" I clear my throat, and continue. "Like I needed to get close to her. Really close."
"That's what the books always say should happen," Will mumbles, and grief washes over me. He researches this. All he does in his spare time when he can is study it marks. In the vain hope that he can find his match.
"Will I-"
"There's a college that studies matches. Did you know that? They also study egofloise. I'm gonna go there. Maybe teach if I can." He murmurs, and I reach out and rub his knee. We ride in silence for a while, before pulling into his driveway.
Before leaving the car, I lean over and kiss his cheek. He and I, we were both the outliers when it came to matches. Both sides of his family was known to not have any marks at all, genetic dead ends. And mine was... I reach to the scar at the back of my neck, always covered by my hair.
Will notices my hand movement, and takes my hand in his. We don't really say anything, just give a nod to each other before venturing inside his house.
