Terrence POV
"Alright son seeing as you're eighteen now, I feel you are responsible enough for public school," my dad, Rufus, tells me. "However, if I catch you befriending any vampires, so help me God you will be sent straight back to St. Jocklin's Private school. I mean it this time, you get one fucking chance, and that is it."
"Thanks, Dad. I promise you won't catch me hanging around any vampires. I know how much we werewolves despise the vampires." I respond and go upstairs.
I never understood what was wrong with being friends with a vampire. Maybe it's because some friendships lead to love and my Dad doesn't want a vampire as a son-in-law. Or maybe it's because of some stupid old war that happened hundreds of thousands of years ago and some people never know when to let it go. If I'm being honest here, I really hope it isn't the second one because that's really fucked up. Think about it, going generation after generation not getting along with one species just because of some dumbass grudge.
Well not anymore. I never intended to listen to my father. Just because I said he wouldn't catch me, doesn't mean I'm going to avoid all vampires. It's not fair, I can be friends with whoever I want.
I get to my room amd shut the door quickly. Grabbing my phone off my dresser, I call my best friend, Sophie while flopping on my bed.
"Well, how'd it go?" She asks, picking up on the first ring
"Let's just say you might be seeing a lot more of me at school this year." I say, barely containing my excitement.
"Eeeeee! I'm soooo exciteddd!! I can't wait until Monday!" She squeals.
"Me neither! This is going to be the best school year ever!" I respond. "Ok I gotta go now but I will see you Monday."
"Ok byeee!"
After hanging up, I stare at the ceiling deep in thought. "I will always remember you. Even though we won't see each other anymore we can always stay best friends! I will always love you, wolfie" "I love you too, my little bat."
*Tha-dump*

<Monday>
I hate getting up early. I hit dismiss on my alarm, only after I hit snooze three times. As I'm walking to my closet, my mother yells:
"Terrence! You better be awake up there!"
"I am, mom! I've been up for a while now!" I lie.
I quickly put on a black t-shirt, white jeans, and a pair of black and white Vans.
"Terr, Mom says you need to hurry up or you're gonna get left," my brother, Elliot, yells. He's in his second year of college but stays at the pack house to help with the pups.
"I'll be there in a second, Li," I call back on my way down the stairs.
I get to the kitchen to find my mom and some omegas making breakfast. I grab an apple muffin and make my way to my mother.
"Good morning, sweetie. Are you excited for school?" She asks with excitment
"Of course I am! It's my first time going to public school," I answer.
"That's good. Your father is waiting for you in the car."
"Thanks Mom, see you later."
I go outside and get in the car with my dad.
"Morning son."
"Hey Dad. Thanks again for letting me try public school. I won't let you down."
"I know you won't. This is your only chance. If you screw this up-"
"-I get sent back to St. Jocklin's. I got it Dad," I interrupt, rolling my eyes.
The drive continues in silence. After about 10 minutes, we reach the school. Hillwater High-my ticket to freedom. I get out the car and say goodbye to my dad. I step through the doors and find the locker I was given at orientation. As I get closer, I see a familiar figure leaning against my locker.
"Finally. What took you so long?" Sophie asks, resting her hands on her hips.
"Don't look so happy to see me," I say, sarcasm filling my voice. "I'm not used to waking up so early."
"Mhm. Anyway, hand over your schedule." She demands
I hand her the piece of paper without question, not wanting to upset her more.
"Hmm, we have second, lunch, and fifth together." She says.
"Well, that's not too bad. Besides we can still hang out after school." I say as the bell rings.
We say our goodbyes and head towards our classes. On my way into my math class, I smelled the most intoxicating smell. I knew exactly what it was. I had been waiting for this for eighteen years. My mate was close. I look for a seat close to the smell and find one directly behind it. The boy in front of me had golden blonde hair with bangs long enough to tuck behind his ears. He had two piercings in both earlobes. I couldn't see the rest of his face but he had a glasses case on his desk.
A few minutes later the teacher, Ms. Harper, comes in and takes roll. It takes about three minutes before I hear; "Reese Polinski?"
The boy in front of me answers.
Reese Polinski? This year might be more interesting than I ever imagined.
