Nothing, absolutely nothing.

The world is a beautiful place. The light and the darkness, feeling of the wind and water on bare skin, the laughter and cries of many. From the deepest darkest secrets of its existence to something as measly as a single organism.

Of course, it would be naive to say that it didn't have its downsides. Evil, poverty, wickedness, war. But it was difficult to resist. The world is something very interesting and fascinating, especially in the eye's of Midoriya Izuku.

silent and mute

He loved every aspect of it. The animals, the abiotic components like wind and snow, the communities shared and the unique individuals he shared this world with. The sight of it was amazing, irresistible. And one he admired the most were those who made it a much better place, the heroes. His dream as a kid had always been to become a hero, someone who would keep the world at peace, keep the world beautiful like it is meant to. Those who wished to tint the world darker than it already was would face him, along with many others.

This is what brought him to this prestigious school for future heroes, Yuei. But one thing that made him feel different, unsure of whether to see it as a unique thing to him or nothing but a disadvantage, is his inability to hear. Izuku's world is much different from others. Sure they have the same view, but a silent world really gets you thinking.

Distant

And to be honest, he liked the silence.

-------eku you there?".

Izuku's head shot up to meet the hazel brown eyes of his best friend, Uraraka. Concern was all he could read on her face as she hugged her binders tight against her chest. Was I out for long?. His elbow supported his arm on the table, his fingers behind both his ears, brushing against the small movable switch of his hearing aids.

"You kinda blanked out there. You sure you're okay?", she leaned closer to the boy, gaining a little blush from the male. Ah, so he didn't stay long.

Izuku had been deaf for as long as he could imagine, ever since he got into an accident with his parents as a child. His mother had survived with minor injuries and his father, the poor man, had died in that unfortunate incident. Izuku however was left with a life long scar, the total destruction of his eardrums. His mother broke down in tears after she heard the diagnosis of her son, and the boy could only stare at her in confusion, not aware of what was going on. At that moment he felt like he was disconnected from the world, couldn't hear a thing. Not the sound of chirping birds, moving trains or even the soft soothing voice of his mother. It was all gone and all he could hear was silence, as ironic as it was.

At first it was devastating. He couldn't hear a single thing, left with the only company of his mind. He couldn't understand people who spoke around him neither could he hear the sounds of joy, sorrow, anger. And worst of all, he couldn't hear those words, the words his favorite hero spoke. The encouraging determined words of a number 1 hero. He could only echo it through his mind, like a broken recorder.
