It's been finally a relief, that I got to join the police force. I just graduated college with my partner, Ross, and attended cadet school with him. We both graduated from cadet school after that and we have been in the action catching speeding criminals, and investigating crime scenes.
Currently I'm just resting in my chair with Ross in the other room, filling out paper work. But soon after we get a call from the office, someone dialed 911. Our captain then alerted us
"Dwayne, Ross, a women just reported a man was inside her house, I want both of you to check it out."
We nodded and we grabbed our gear and headed out. I looked at the info we had, apparently this was a lady that lived alone at her house named Karen. My best guess was that most likely she was very old, as maybe her loneliness got to her. I was found dumbfounded when I got there because she was not at all old. She was 35 years old, alone, with no children or husband living with her.
Ross and I got out of our car, after we pulled in her driveway. She greeted us in and perceived to tell us what happen, apparently once she was grabbing her keys, she saw a dark figure at her window, she screamed in fear and pulled out her phone, but the creature already escaped through the back door.
We looked inside for clues or anything out of the ordinary just in case he stole something, anything that might give us a lead.
"Do you see anything" said Ross
"No, you think she has gone crazy? Theres no sign of a person breaking through a window or showing any struggle to find things and leaving a mess" I replied back
"I don't know, this place makes me feel weird, why does a 35 year old women live alone in her house with so many other rooms, we should mark it off as nothing and get on our way." Ross said hesitantly
I got a feeling he was right, but Ross wasn't someone to follow the police code as much, he rather follow his gut and if something was up that made him uncomfortable, but he had to pursue, he wouldn't take a chance to continue his mission, and he would leave in a heartbeat. It almost annoys me, as being a cop is basically signing a contract that you would risk your own life to be in a dangerous circumstance that involved death, just to protect the people. Thats why I signed up, to make the world a better place and to arrest the bad and the ugly.
We went to Karen and told her we couldn't find anything, but if anything that would happen like this again, she should call us. She nodded and we said our good byes. We returned to our police cruiser and drove back to our station to report our investigation.
