[Michael POV]
"Locals have reported strange bats appearing all across tow-"
Michael switched off the TV. He had always lived alone. It was peaceful. At least, he thought it would be like that. Instead, it was unsettling. It was strange to hear only yourself in the house. The nights would be so quiet. Sure, he liked a little peace now and then, but after a while it gets creepy.
Michael would fill the apartment with music or turn the tv up to tune out the loud silence. He turned on some Bob Marley and started making dinner. And by making dinner, he was really just microwaving some leftover Chinese food. The loud microwave beep snapped him out of his thoughts. Just as he took his food out of the microwave, he heard a small squeak.
"Oh no, don't tell me we have rats again...." He mumbled as he set down his food and started searching for the source of the squeaking. Soon, he found a small bat laying on the floor. Michael thought about grabbing it and releasing it back into the wild when his eye caught a small wound on the bat. Right on the bat's shoulder was a small, but deep, cut.
The bat made a squeaking noise and nudged Michael's finger with its muzzle.
"Hey lil buddy....where did you come from?" Michael realized he left his window open. "Ah...I see." Carefully, he picked up the bat, making sure not to move its wing too much. Michael placed the bat on the kitchen counter and went to grab his phone in the bedroom. While he looked up how to help the wounded bat, he heard rustling in the kitchen followed by a loud thump. Quickly, Michael ran into the kitchen only to see a brunette boy with extremely pale, almost white, skin lying on the kitchen floor. By the looks of it, this boy was around Michael's age.
"Ow...." The boy groaned. Michael just stood in the kitchen doorway, shocked to see a teenage boy just sitting in his kitchen.
"How did you...who..what?" Michael sputtered in confusion. He looked around, but the bat was nowhere in sight. The boy had the same wound as the bat. Right on his shoulder was a small, but deep, cut. "Where's the bat....unless..." The boy then stood up and waved his hands frantically while shushing Michael. He quickly ran over to the window and closed it.
"I'll explain everything, but you CANNOT tell anyone," The boy whispered urgently. Michael nodded his head, curious to know what this was all about. "My name is Jeremy, I'm a vampire and someone is trying to kill me," Jeremy said, still whispering slightly. "I know we just met but I need a place to hide. Would you mind if I lived here for a while?" Realizing that he was waiting for an answer, Michael jumped a little.
"O-oh yeah! Of course." Weird. Michael's never stuttered before. Relief washed over Jeremy's face. He practically tackled Michael into a hug.
"Thank you so much..." Jeremy quickly pulled back and gripped his shoulder. The blood stained his blue jacket a dark red.
"Oh! Y-your shoulder! Uh, stay here. I..I have a first aid kit." Michael quickly rushed off into the bathroom. After grabbing the fist aid kit, Michael took a quick glance in the mirror. A light blush sprinkled his cheeks. Almost like...he was in love? Shaking off that thought, he hurried back to the kitchen. Jeremy sat on the counter, still holding his shoulder and trying not to get blood on Michael's counter. Slowly, Michael reached forward with a wet washcloth. His hand brushed Jeremy's as he pulled down his jacket carefully.
"Uh, this is gonna hurt a little," Michael said as he softly dabbed the washcloth on Jeremy's shoulder. Jeremy hissed in pain. "What happened? If you don't mind me asking..." Michael asked while getting out some bandages.
"A vampire hunter found me and cornered me. He tried stabbing me, but I moved and he hit my shoulder instead." Michael finished up bandaging his shoulder. He noticed tears forming in Jeremy's eyes.
"Oh, I'm sorry! I-I didn't mean to bring up a, uh, bad topic I just-"
"Don't be sorry," Jeremy cut him off. "Thanks for helping me, though." A small grin spread across Jeremy's face. He hopped down from the counter. Immediately, he grabbed onto Michael, knees shaking.
"Whoa...you ok?" He put his hand on Jeremy's back to help steady him.
"Yea...blood loss probably..." Jeremy muttered, still holding onto Michael's shoulder. Michael guided him to the sofa. "This is going to sound really weird and there's really no way to sugarcoat it..." Jeremy laughed nervously. Michael tilted his head slightly. "Every so often...ummm.. how the hell do I say this? I need...blood. To stay alive, you know? That's why I wasn't able to stand well earlier. And, again, we just met so I wouldn't be surprised if you said no to it." Jeremy rambled a little until his voice quietly trailed off.
"Does it... have to be human blood? Does it have to be mine?" Michael asked, shuddering at the thought of Jeremy's sharp fangs in his skin. Jeremy noticed how that made Michael uncomfortable.
"Oh! Nononono, it doesn't have to be yours! Only..only if you're ok with it..." They sat there in an awkward silence. Jeremy then jumped up. "Wait! I know what to do!" Jeremy must've forgotten that he can't stand well, as he stumbled and fell into Michael's arms. Slowly, Jeremy regained his balance. "Tomato juice. Do you have any?"
"No... but there's a shop nearby. I could go get some really quick." Michael said, helping Jeremy sit back down on the couch.
"That would work. And before you go, thank you for everything." A smile spread across Jeremy's face.
"Of course! It's my pleasure." Michael smiled back and headed for the door. "Just get some rest, ok? I'll be back in a bit." He closed the door and started walking down the stairs. His heart was beating fast and he couldn't stop thinking about this strange boy. His fluffy brunette hair, the way his icy blue eyes would sparkle, his cute smile..... oh god.
What was happening? This was the first time he's felt happy in his home in a while. Realizing that he was at the store, he quickly snapped out of those thoughts. He grabbed a few packs of tomato juice and went to the register. Was he really in love? Would he feel the same way? What if he doesn't and it just makes everything weird? What if-
"Sir? That will be 11.94." The lady at the register caught him off guard.
"Oh, sorry...kinda spaced out.." Michael muttered as he fumbled with his wallet. He quickly paid and headed back home. Michael never thought he would be here in his life, walking home with 3 cases of tomato juice to help a vampire he just met but now was his new roommate. As he approached his apartment door he thought to himself.
How did my life end up like this?
