"They switched them."

Evelia was in a small circular room in a common building just like any other, on Bidvale's East End. The building housed the barracks, jails, and interrogation rooms of the WSD. Due to their "special" purpose and "unique" needs, the WSD did not house with the common Bidvale City Guard.

The circular room she was in belonged to Director Sarvis, who was also present in the room with her. As was his Overseer, Kelek.

"Did I not tell you that would happen? The old man is wiser than he looks," responded Director Sarvis. He was a tall and lean man, with deep, black hair and white skin. He had piercing gray eyes. He kept his face cleanshaven, without a hair in sight. He was sitting in a chair, drinking a glass of Marrensdale White.

She handed the switched set of scrolls to Kelek. "Here, Kelek. Confirm that they have actually been switched, if you would. All I did was take a quick glance and saw a couple things out of place." Kelek was standing on the side of the room, leaning against the wall.

Kelek knew the Faefolk tongue. His knowledge of certain things was almost... otherworldly. He grabbed the scrolls and carefully opened them up. Blue mist emanated off of the parchment.

The Director laughed and nodded his head enthusiastically. "Oh, what His Eminence would do to those scrolls. More particularly to us, if he found them."

Evelia scolded him. "This is not a joke, Sarvis. This is treason. I don't see anything funny about this situation."

He sighed in response. "Relax, Miss Royal Sibyl."

Kelek spoke up. His deep voice resounded throughout the small room. "These are not the same scrolls."

"Well what are they? Can we use them?" Evelia asked.

"They are still of the Faefolk, but they do not discuss The Forbidden Magic. It is a culinary recipe."

Director Sarvis laughed again, a sound that resembled the squeaking of a moving chair. "There you have it, Miss Ingrin. The old man cannot be trusted. And neither can Young Dindle. This was a colossal waste of our time."

Evelia snapped. "Shut up, Sarvis. I will say what is a waste of time and what isn't. This is my duty and my duty alone to carry out. You will watch your tongue, or I'll cut it out and feed it to Vessa."

Sarvis did not respond to that.

"We need to get them back," Evelia continued.

"I will go," said Kelek.

"You will, Kelek. As will a dozen other of my men," said Sarvis. He got up and went to an end table to refill his glass. As he poured more wine for himself, he continued, "Turn his shop upside down and find those scrolls. If you find anything else magical in nature, bring it here as well." His glass full, he took a sip and went back to his chair to sit down. "The old man has the ear of the Sovereign, so I'd rather you do this when he's not there. I want him to feel as it's a regular robbery so that no fingers are pointed at us," continued Sarvis as he kicked his feet up to rest them on his desk.

"It will be done, Director."

Sarvis nodded. As he drank his wine, he looked over the brim of the glass at Evelia. For confirmation, it would seem.

Evelia nodded in response. "Very good. I must leave Bidvale for a couple days; Sovereign Jording has requested that I lend magical aid to our farms for harvest surplus. I expect those scrolls to be back safe upon my return."

Sarvis smirked. "Yes, Royal Sibyl."

With that, Evelia took her leave. She pulled up the hood on the black cloak she was wearing and left the WSD offices.
