When I was born my mother and father were delighted to see I wasn’t one of the rare cases of no soulmate. Every child was immediately born with a name meaning their soulmate was their age or later on if their soulmate was younger than them.
I had a tuff of pure black hair and I was quite a tiny baby with pale skin. I had bright silver eyes after they were the originally grey and a tiny crescent birthmark on the side of my belly button. A beautiful baby boy my parents claimed from the many photos they showed me. They say I have my mother’s family’s unique eyes and my father’s pure black hair. I am the perfect combination of my parents and they never told me otherwise.
Instead of one name scrolling itself on my left inside wrist, three names written by an invisible hand was immediately found on the insides of my left wrist.
Gabriel
Michael
Raphael
My parents were lovers of the meanings of names obviously noted that each one was an archangel’s name, they didn’t mind that they were all boy’s names. A soulmate is the one who matched their beautiful son’s soul, who cares if they’re the same gender?
Raised to think it was perfectly natural to have three names on my wrist until we went to the hospital to register my names into the system and have my first check-up. I was seven years old and skipping preschool because my parents didn’t what to let go of me yet. Skinny and bony all over, I had long black wavy locks that curled when wet.
The nurse who rolled up my sleeve was at first laughing as if my parents written the two extra names themselves before running her fingertips over the letters to feel the knowing charge of energy that meant the names were very real.
“Oh my goodness!” the nurse gasped as she immediately yanked her hand away and squinted at the three names there for all to see. My parents wrote it off as something special and unique about me to be so lucky to have three boys destined to be mine. But I could hear the whispers of jealous, envy, and disgust for having three names especially the same gender as me. I kept my mouth shut the entire time as we were directed towards another doctor’s room where I could spy a photo of two men standing together in front of a gondola. One was tall with short blonde hair and shining green eyes. The other was shorter with short light brown hair and bright hazel eyes. In between them was their inner wrist facing up and intertwined with a beautiful design that matched each other. My parents had matching wrist as well in the design of leaves and little flowers.
The blonde man from the photo walked in and greeted us with a friendly smile before spotting my list of soulmate names. Instead of reacting badly, he simply smiled wider and congratulated me for getting so many perfect matchers. As well as introducing himself as Dr. Lindersan. The check-up went by quick and then the doctor asked if he could speak to me privately, of course my parents agreed from a look he gave them but I couldn’t see it from where I sat.
Closing the door after my parents walked out, Mr. Lindersan turned towards me with a sad smile before sitting in a chair in front of me.
“Do you know why people act negatively to your list of names?” Dr. Lindersan asked as I shook my head, noticing that he never asked if I noticed. Was it so terrible to have three names? My grandparents had two names and all three of them were perfectly happy when they visited.
“Well society sees it weird or unnatural to find a person with more than one name. Having two with one boy and one girl is more natural for society to handle. But finding a person with three names is seen as overboard. Even more flabbergasting is the fact it is obvious all four of you are male. Society is more acceptable to same gender soulmates since you can’t help who you bond with, but four males is a bit too much for anyone besides your love ones and people in similar situations to handle naturally.” Dr. Lindersan explained as gently as possible as I frowned and looked down at the three names.
