Catching the canteen in midflight, he nodded, pausing for a beat, and slowly turned his back to the terminator, moving toward the broken hull of his jeep, head shaking as he surveyed the smoking wreckage.

Over his shoulder, "You're not broken."

Raking a gaze over the jeep's interior, he leaned in, pulling a map from the seat cushion, and stilled, a glint of steel catching his eye.

Bending to the floor. "You're a hybrid."

Wrapping his fingers around the errant ammo clip with a wry chuckle, he pushed up to full height, and slapped it into the hand grip of his Glock, pulled his duffel from the rear seat, hiking it up over his shoulder, and turned back to the metal.

"Thank you for helping me."

Stilling for a beat, momentarily uncertain about leaving her alone on the road, he blinked, chastising himself for the unwarranted concern, and pivoted on his heel, his boots crunching on the gravel as he stepped back onto the roadway, walking slowly away from Allison's metal twin.

"Hybrids are machines, but they have a human core.

I've known others.

You're more human than most people give you credit for."
