Hi Guys, I'm updating Today because it's Maymunatu_bukar's birthday. She's come to mean so much to me in the past six months, I mean considering all i have faced writing this book. I'm super grateful and thankful for her, so y'all please put her in your prayers and your duas. May God's blessings be with you now and always.

"So guys, In Sha Allah, my makeup line will be dropping in three months." I say at the breakfast table a week after I phoned Ebira to say I'd made my decision.

Cheers greet my announcement and every one comes round to hug me, except Moh who sends me a thumbs up.

"Ya Affy, you're such an inspiration." I shake my head. I'm not easily accepting praises about this, all praises be to Allah who gave me the best family.

"It would not have been so easily possible of not for Baaba's help. So whenever you're saying Alhamdulilahi for me, say a prayer for Baaba and pray that he gets the highest place in Jannah for being such a big help." We all say a dua that Safiyyya begins.

It's been three weeks since we came to London, Safiyya has been going to sewing school near Arsenal and has to leave even before anyone wakes, my only consolation is the fact that she goes with Zarah who's an intern at one of Baaba's companies near the sewing school.

"Ya Allah, Ya Affy. You don't know how happy I am for you." I blow Zarah a kiss and stand up to take my plates to the kitchen, Safiyya and Zarah get up instead and start taking played round the room.

"Where is Zeenah?" Maama laughs and hits the table. She seems to know something we all don't.

"Wallah, I've begun forgetting things, Zeenah said someone and his parents are coming over to dinner. He's a potential." I notice the atmosphere becomes tense.

"Is he good enough." Maama spreads her arms at Moh's question.

"It's our Zeenah, Moh, no man can be good enough for her." Maama laughs again, deeply and loudly this time.

"Stop behaving like Macho men. She's an adult, and for her to have him come see us, it means she knows him well enough, we'll trust her choice and say our bit. Innit?" They relax and I marvel, I wish I had this sort of protection when I was marrying You-know-who.

"So, everyone please be here at seven. Dressed up. I also hear he's Pakistani, show the famous Nigerian hospitality." Moh grumbles something under his breath.

Maama laughs at him again.

****

"Welcome."

Adeel welcomes them as they come in. It's a few minutes after seven and we're all in different beautifully sewn Ankara. Maama did say show the Nigerian hospitality, duh.

"Salam Alaykum."  They begin and and we all chorus the reply to the Salam.

I watch as a family of Six walk into the main parlour where we're all waiting, all of them with wheat skin and fair palms.

I'm seeing it all from the vantage point where I'm seating in a far part of the parlour.

Once they're seated, Zeenah and Zarah come out with a tray of tea that she placed on a really nice tea set.

She offers each person tea and finally gets to me, I wink at her making her smile, only Allah knows how much dread she's feeling right now.

I watch as Maama and Hakim's mother make introductions, I see Safiyya, Zarah and Zeenah come into the room after finishing the tea service.

Hakim's mother points at Safiyya. "Ma Sha Allah, is she also your daughter?" Maama says no and points at me identifying Safiyya as my sister.

"Ma Sha Allah." I smile and nod. Feeling a little dazed at being the centre of attention.

"She's so beautiful." I nod again in thanks.

Someone from the kitchen comes to tell us that dinner is ready, ending the conversation between Adeel, Hakim's father and Hakim himself.

We troop to the dining room that comfortably takes all of us, and we get served, one thought pops into my mind, about whether or not Hakim's family don't feel smothered by the show of wealth.

Adeel became a tyrant overnight ever since he heard this morning, from asking for the best tea set to the best China and even making us all wear our best, I could have settled for an Abaya but he said he certainly wanted the very best.

"We have to show them that they can't maltreat my sister." He said.

Now that they're here, I sort of feel sympathy for them, they must feel smothered.

I watch Zeenah eat her food in little bites, in what I'm sure is due to dread. I know how it feels too.

*****

"That went well?" Adeel asks no one in particular, we all laugh at him, he'd finally come down from his throne.

"Went well considering how you and Moh made Hakim and his brothers look like you were going to eat them up." Zarah's laughter bubbles up and spills out.

"I'm doing what's best for my sister." Moh answers cheekily.

"Don't worry, you'll be treated that way too. I promise you." We all laugh again at Maama's words.

I climb the stairs in tiredness and Adeel follows.

"Alhamdulilahi." He says when we get to our room.

"Alhamdulilahi. Ma Sha Allah." He cups his hands and utters a prayer and I follow.

"Let's pray Maghrib." I walk to the bathroom and begin ablution, when I come out, I meet Adeel spraying two mats facing the Kabbah.

He leads the prayers and I follow and after praying two units, I personally begin to make duas.

"Let's get ready for bed." I watch him take off his shirt and a never known before sensation comes over me, and i find out I'm looking at him differently.

Ya Allah.

"Ma'am?" Our eyes lock and he licks his lips, he walks gently to me and next thing I know, he's saying the dua of consummation.

After one year.

Alhamdulilahi.
