This is Queen's first album. It was released on the 13th of July in 1973 but was recorded at different times. There are a lot of heavy rock songs in here and most of them are underrated songs so i will put most of the songs in here.
1. My Fairy King
This is one of the best songs on the first album of Queen. It is written by Freddie Mercury. It's about a fanstasy world named Ryhe, where he woud sing more of later in songs like "Seven Seas Of Rhye". This song is also the song that may have inspired Freddie to change his last name from Bulsara to Mercury. In the lyrics you hear "Mother Mercury, look what they've done to me". Brian May said that after the line was written, Freddie claimed he was singing about his mother. This song was also the first song to feature Freddie's piano skills. Brian May played the piano first. They didn't even know that Freddie could play the piano so good. He didn't tell them because he was very insecure about it.
I really love the overdubs in this song and the build up when he sings: "on and one and one and one".
2. Liar
This song is also written by Freddie Mercury in 1970. It's about a man at a church, asking for forgiveness but but finding none. Its like a prayer. Everybody thinks he is a liar and nobody believes him again for what he has done. The guitar solo of Brian at the beginning of the song is amazing. It's one of my favourite guitar solos. I dont know if this song was about Freddie himself, but it really could be. Maybe he felt guilty about something that he has done and prayed to god to forgive him.
3. The Night Comes Down
This song is written by Brian May. It's a very sad and deep song. I think he put a lot of his feelings in there.
It's hard to figure out what it's about. I think it's about his teenage time, finding his identity, struggeling with things in life. There's also a line that could be inspired by the song of the Beatles 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' in the line "Lucy was high and so was i, dazzling, holding the world inside". I really like the beginning of this song too. It starts with an amazing guitar solo just like in Liar.
4. Great King Rat
This is a very intresting song to me. Freddie wrote it. He always suprises me with his lyrics. The first tike that i listened to this song, i thought it was really strange, but it quickly became on of my favs. There's only one weird thing about this song: Freddie sort of predicted his own death. You can see that in the first line: "Great King Rat died today. Born on the 21st of May. Died syphilis 44 on his birthday". Freddie died at the age of 45 of a similair disease. Anyways, it's a really nice song with long guitar solo and sudden tempo changes.
5. Son And Daughter
I love this song. The first line is already really catchy. It's written by Brian in 1972. It's on the B-side of the song 'Keep Yourself Alive'. It's obvisouly about a guy that is very angry at something and wants to change the rules of society and wants to change the world. Besides that i dont really know what it's about. But lyrics doesn't really matter with Queen. It always sounds good. Very underrated song. You should take a listen.
6. Jesus
This song is written by Freddie. It's also about religion and it tells the story of Jesus from Nazareth. Freddie was not a Christian but Zoroastrian, so it's a bit weird that he wrote a song about Jesus. It has two chords in the couplets and a long guitar solo that leads to the end.
