"Sophie, I'm pretty sure I hear your friends outside!" Mum called to me, and I looked up from my laptop and headed out. Surely enough, my three best friends Angela, Bliss and Joanne were rapping on the window waiting for me to get ready. My first day at fourth year... I'd miss the summer and all, but in a way it was good to be back.
I was just expecting a normal school day - filled with the usual things like boring maths lessons and lunchtimes which ended in my friends and I crying with laughter. But that wasn't the case, not today.
"Soph, did you even bother with the Spanish homework?" Joanne asked, carrying her bag over one shoulder which seemed to be the 'new way' of carrying them nowadays. We'd got a Spanish vocab homework to look at over the summer, and Jo hadn't bothered with it which didn't surprise me. "Yeah," I said, "I don't want Mrs. Fench screaming at me like she did with you!" Mrs. Fench, our Spanish teacher, was known to shout at pupils when they didn't do what they were asked and Joanne was one of those pupils.
Bliss was humming along to a song which she was listening to on her i-pod, probably JLS or one of those stupid boy bands she 'fancied'. Angie and I striked up a conversation about one of the girls in our Science class called Erica Stafford, who neither of us liked much. Erica was the head cheerleader of the school and she had a 'gang' or 'posse' as you might say. None of them were very likeable in my opinion, though people seemed to look up to them.
"I mean, she's OK." Angie sighed, running her hand through her hair. I know how much Angie hates talking about people, no matter how much they deserve it. "Ohh, she's okay. Yeah sure. That's like saying Mrs. Fench isn't strict!" Angela started to laugh. "You're right I guess, she's annoying. But, it's best not to get in her way." That's exactly what I do. Avoid her. It's worked like a charm up until now.
"What d'you guys have today?" Joanne asked us, because we were all in different classes from eachother with the exception of a few. I looked at my timetable: double Spanish, English, double Chemistry, History, double Home Economics, Maths and Geography. "Looks great!" Bliss joked, and I laughed bitterly because I hated my Monday timetable. It sucked. I missed being in the same classes as Angie, Jo and Bliss all the time like the last three years.
At least Jo was in my Spanish class though, and I hoped I'd be able to sit beside her because although sitting with Jo was quite stressful since she was a bit of a 'rebel', it would also be enjoyable because she was such good fun. "I honestly hate Spanish." Jo sighed, tutting and trying to make people feel sorry for her with no luck. "Why didn't I do French like you guys?" Bliss and Angie both chose to only keep French on for GCSE, while Jo and I chose Spanish. I actually liked Spanish though, but it seemed like my friend didn't.
For GCSE as well as the compulsory subjects (English language, English literature and Maths) I was doing Geography, Spanish, HE, History, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Joanne was doing Spanish, Drama, Physics, PE, Technology, Business Studies and RE. Angie was doing French, Ad Maths, RE, History, Music, Physics and Chemistry. Lastly, Bliss was doing French, RE, Business Studies, Chemistry, Technology, Geography and Art.
I am in some of the same classes as my friends. I'm with Jo for Spanish and Physics, Angie for English and Maths, and Bliss for Geography. If I had only done RE we might have all got to be in the same class for something, because all three of them were in the same RE class. But I hate RE to be honest, so I didn't choose to do it.
The familiar sound of the school bell rang throughout the school to let us know it was time for registration, which I dreaded because our form tutor was almost as strict as Mrs. Fench which wasn't a good sign. Her name was Miss Lowly, and our class were 11Q which Angie and I were in, but Jo and Bliss were in two different classes - 11R and 11A. I would miss us all being in 10W - which was our old Year 10 class last year.
