A POEM FOR TWIN ANIMALS

To forgive is to forget,

You hear them say:

But who are they?

Who are they to tell you to forgive,

Who are they?

They who bind your limbs and lips with tendrils of briar, Limbs of lead,

Who are they?

Your head swims with unpleasantry,

For how can you forget?

Who are they who tell you to forget?

Forget events that shaped you,

Forget the things that made you,

Forgive the things which festered,

Which made you dark and bittered.

Forgive them for what theyve done.

Forgive what cant be undone.

Oh, My friend- I cannot blame you.

For you cannot forgive, Nor can I forget.

I cannot forget the day you bore your teeth and lunged,

For my throat

Soft, vunerable,

Weak

You cannot forget the day I took the plunge,

Off the edge

Falling, Quickly

Gone

I cannot forgive what you have done to me.

You cannot forget what I have done to you.

We are the same, You and I.

We are animals.

You bare your fangs,

I bare my own.

Your words, They rip into my throat

Like claws.

My actions, They rip into your heart

Like knives.

So, Forgive me - My friend.

Even if you cannot forget,

For we are alike,

You and I.
