It is said that fear is nothing but a state of mind.
As Violet and Cleo stood in the center of the throne room surrounded by the cream of all evils, they both felt fear.
But they had different ways of dealing with it.
Violet stood by her friends side, heart hammering in her chest. Her palms were sweaty and the occasional chill ran down her spine everytime one of them eyed her hungrily. Though she had just gotten here, she couldn't wait to leave this cold place. The air felt like it had gotten colder as one of the kings got up from his throne and walked towards them, enjoying the sight of a mere mortal squirming.
Cleo on the other hand was stoic. Her feet were firmly planted in the ground and her topaz eyes roamed the room, looking for any signs of threat. Her orbs snapped to the king - the one in charge - as he walked down the steps in an agonizing pace. The look on his face clearly showed he was relishing every moment of intolerance both friends were showing.
"Welcome, dear friends." He smiled, extending his arms in a welcoming gesture.
"Hello Aro." Cleo spoke, confidence laced in her carefully chosen words.
"Cleo Spade." He nodded, his arm out - palm up - as he waited for Cleo to place her hand in his.
Should I? She mused to herself knowing she didn't have a say in the matter. She placed her hand in his as his eyes glazed over, skimming her thoughts.
"How... interesting." He said, pulling away with a cautious look.
Interesting? Loose screw sounds more fitting. Violet snickered at the thought. Bad choice.
"And the human I have been looking forward to seeing. What is your name young one?" He smiled, but the hidden disgust was clear on his face.
"Violet May Cooper. Pleasure to meet you." She smiled, despite her shaking hands. She placed her hand in his without a second thought before her smile faltered.
He is going to see ALL my thoughts. Crap.
"Pleasure is all mine young one."
The guards, unlike the kings, were a little eager at the thought of a human staying with them. After their turning, they had lost contact with the outside world and retired to the castle completely. They wanted to know what they missed out - especially Demetri, Felix, Corin and Santiago. The only time they go out is for missions, which is rare. All guards had their eyes on the human, except one.
Alec was entranced, the second she had walked into the room. Her blonde hair was straight and flowed down to her hips, surrounding her heart shaped face like a curtain. Her lips were thin and her brows arched which perfectly suited her, giving her a more goddess like appearance. Her topaz eyes were doe-like and she looked like the epitome of purity and innocence at first glance. His breath had been knocked out of his system the minute she laid eyes on him, though it was just a glare, something clicked inside him and he just knew.
Joel was a completely different story. Violet, Violet, Violet... That's all he could think about. Though he had been a vampire for over a millennia, he had no idea what to do about the thoughts that plagued his mind. He wanted her, but he didn't. He craved her blood, but he couldn't bear the thought of hurting her. He didn't want to care, but he wanted to explode and rip out the necks of every vampire that had their eyes on her. His thoughts were all muddled up and he wanted nothing more than to draw - his usual task when he was confused or angered. I need to get myself checked. He thought to himself as he had to practically tear his eyes away from the beauty before his eyes.
