Dead? In the woods?
I never thought I could be superior in any which way, for I had always been ever so pathetic and unwanted, but today was different. Today, I claimed my name’s title.
I’m known for my strong sense of creativity. It was 2:15 p.m.; as usual, I was on Deviant Art searching a wide spread of different paintings, drawings, and sculptures. Ever since I was young, I’ve always been working on projects of my own—from animations to fine arts. My town is quiet and peaceful—perfect for deep concentration for finishing my work. I scrolled past a picture that made my mind stop and think.
Lately, I’ve been having really strange dreams about some girl I’ve never even met. Every night, it’s nearly the exact same dream, the difference is in the setting… it used to be joyful, but now it has gotten eerie, like something has gone terribly wrong. Sometimes, I feel as if something had actually happened, but again, it’s all just a dream… or is it? I have a heavy pressure beating down on my chest as hard as a hammer banging onto a wooden board.
I hear a faint banging on my window which makes me jump out of my deep state of mind. I look up from my lap, peek out the window, and see a girl just standing there… watching me and waiting.
From what I can tell, her eyes look serious like this is urgent, but she’s too shy to approach me herself. I give her a 'just a second' finger and start heading to her spot in my freshly-cut backyard.
I live all by myself in the quiet farmland of Merrifort, Thalimar. Although I’m quite solitaire, I cherish my neighbors—practically the only ones I have left. My room is in the attic and everything else is down below. I have this big issue with my door being nearly closed but not fully, so I make sure that it had clicked in place. Almost immediately after my door is the stairs. As I walk down, the old floor boards squeak like a poor mechanical pencil writing on paper. To express my creative imagination, I have a collection of abstract artwork hanging on the wall aside the staircase. I open my front door and head to the back yard.
Arriving to the spot where she stands, she hasn’t moved at all. It’s almost like her feet were part of the ground. Kind of freaky if you ask me… I strode up behind her and kindly tapped her on the shoulder, “Excuse me, ma’am?”
She stayed stuck in position like a soldier on duty, “Yuudai… It’s about time we’ve spoken.”
I felt a chill crawling up my back. How does she know my name?? “You—”, I paused for a moment, wondering if I should state the fact I recognize her or not.
“I’ve heard much about you, Yuudai,” She turns around to face me. It turns out, I'm awfully close to her, so I take a step backwards. She's wearing black skinny jeans with black combat boots; wristbands up to the middle of her right forearm and a red, plaid button up shirt. Her brunette hair waves low and luscious in addition to bangs in the front. Her deep, blue eyes look into the depths of my soul. She's actually kind of pretty. “I perceive much greatness in you, and I need you to help me with something that has been killing me inside for quite some time now.” She grinned a bit—sort of like a Cheshire cat… but not exactly… sweet and warm heartedly.
Perceive much greatness? I’m a NOTHING. How has she even heard of me? What’s going on?? “Well, what do you need help with?” I feel such nerve-racking senses from her that I’d rather not make her upset or angry.
“Stubborn, young sir,” she sighs, “I ran away from home when I was 7—always feeling unwanted by my older brother, the only one left to take care of me since mother and father left. I want to find my older brother and reunite!”
They left? Unwanted? I look her in the eyes. She’s gorgeous! How could anyone not want her around? “Why did your parents leave?” I kindly asked, “If you don't mind sharing…,” I mumbled.
“Well,” she started to tear up, “They said they were going to go on an adventure one day, and they never came back…”
I embrace her tightly in my arms trying to comfort her, “I’d love to help you, but I’m nothing but a useless, weak, cowardly wimp. I don’t understand how you see anything in me that could be of importance,” I look down in self-disgrace.
Softly, she places her petite, warm hand on my shoulder and comforts me with her words, “Kowai mono nante nai bokura wa mou hitori janai.
Wow she’s quite good with Japanese… 'There’s nothing to be afraid of, because we’re no longer alone.'
I thought those words she recited over and over in my head as if they had a great importance. Those calming words, they gave me great strength. I finally stood up straight, looked her right in her deep, blue eyes, and proudly agreed, “Alright, I’ll journey with you to find your long lost brother.”
Her eyes widen, and she smiled, “Thank you, Yuudai. Let’s get going then.” I grab a few necessities [such as my gamer’s book in case I got bored, a survival book, a match box, spare change, and extra clothing], lock up my house, and we head off.
