Chapter 1: Meetings
The inside of the room was considered to be quite standard by means of being an office. Upon enterine it, the first that a person would take notice would the medium sized office desk with two chairs placed opposite the table before their eyes rested upon the outdated computed sitting on top of the desk that had a few files and portfolios scattered along the surface. Three men file into the room. Two of them are not quite familiar with their surroundings, while the other, a man with dark hair that has a few grey streaks and pale eyes just waltzes, like he has for the last seven years at least. Once the trio is all settled, the in the front of the room with the pale eyes takes a stand in from the desk, gaining the attention of the two gentleman.
"Make yourselves comfortable please. Can I get you anything?" He asks in order to try and be courteous, but not really interested in serving the men sitting before him. This was a meeting after all, not a get together for friends.
"No, we're good. Mind telling us what's going on, Myers?" The first visitor cut to the chase. His known as Stiles and he didn't beat around the bush, which was something the man standing in front of them couldn't help admire.
"Sure. I just got a call from a good friend of mine. Apparently there have been reports about recent 'animal attacks' in a small town that's located in Virginia. Other than the name of the town, we don't have much more to go on with." The two gentlemen listened closely, sharing a look at each other once every few moments.
"So, what do you suggest that we do?" Asked Sullivan, the second man.
"Well, with your permission, I'd like to send in one of our trainees into the premise to investigate."
"Is there anyone particular that you have in mind, Oz" Stiles spoke up once again.
Oz takes the opportunity to walk behind the desk and grabs a file from one of the drawers before he hands it to the two men. They open the file and take a look at the recommended subject.
"This is who I suggest that we give the assignment to."
Stiles and Sullivan study the folder briefly before looking up at Oz incredulously. From their facial expressions, Oz can tell taht they're not that impressed with his recommendation. Sullivan is the one to break the silence, which isn't very surprising.
"Myers, we need hunters, soldiers who are ready to take action if necessary. Not . . . this."
He holds up the file to reveal the headshot of a serious looking girl with hair that's almost black and dark eyes. Oz knew that they wouldn't be open to the idea, but he wasn't going to give into their requests just yet. Not until he proved his reasoning for his choice.
"I understand that it's rare for our unit to make these kinds of exceptions, but you have to understand that this specific subject has shown more strength, determination and promise than anyone else I've ever trained. As a matter of fact, she beats out everyone in her year, including my son. She's a quick thinker, and always finds a way to get a job done." Oz didn't want to seem to boastful, especially at the mention of how the trainee he suggested was even better than his own impulsive son, Blake. But Oz could tell that they weren't entirely convinced just yet.
"And we're just supposed to take your word for that?" Sullivan asks.
They think this is a joke, Oz can tell. But he wasn't done just yet.
"You don't have to. Take a look at her recent test results." Oz dared Stiles and Sullivan. The two men do so and their expressions change to professional surprise.
"Even though she has impressive outcomes, that still isn't enough to carry on with."
Oz knew that these men wanted physical evidence to be satisfied. They were interested in consistency rather than the grueling process it took to be as skilled as his apprentice.
"Well with all due respect gentlemen, but this girl has been training for more than half her life to make up for what happened to her almost a decade ago. She has potential unlike any other, and to be frank, you'd be making a mistake if you didn't give her this kind of opportunity." The two men look back the file before they look back up at Oz once again.
"So where is this almighty apprentice of yours that you're so fond of?"
Oz just smirks at Stiles's question.
