"But that's the thing, Jason! You have no right to control me! I'm not your pet!" Dick screamed at Jason.

Jason glared from his spot on the couch, letting Dick vent his thoughts before he interjected his own.

"I mean, is there a reason you are coddling me? I just don't understand..." Dick's voice began to get quieter, his shoulders slouching.

There was silence for a moment.

Jason began to speak, "You know I'm just looking out for you. I'll admit it was a bit controlling, but you know how I am."

Jason had been thrown off. The reason for this 'fight' had been so minuscule that it confused him.

There has to be something else wrong to set him off this easily, he thought.

Dick had not responded to Jason's reply, and as the minutes went by, he grew worried. Standing from the couch, he slowly made his way to where Dick was standing with his back facing him. He waited a moment before reaching out and setting his hand on Dick's shoulder.

As he spun Dick around to face him, he was surprised.

Tears were steadily streaming down Dick's face. His eyes wouldn't meet Jason's, as his body began to shake with the effort to hold in incoming sobs.

Jason took Dick into his arms immediately, and with the bone crushing hug, Dick released his violent sobs while hugging Jason back. They stayed like this for a while, not moving but holding onto each other.

Eventually, Dick's grip loosened and Jason pulled back to look at Dick's face.

Dick was beautiful. No one could tell him otherwise. Even though his face was red, eyes puffy, he was still beautiful. Dick was so perfect, too perfect for him. Even at his worst, Dick still wasn't close to the unperfectness he himself was. He needed to see Dick's beautiful eyes, always full of hope and happiness.

"Dick", Jason called quietly trying to get his attention.

Nothing happened. Both remained where they were.

Sighing, Jason set his hand under Dick's chin and gently pushed his face up to face towards Jason. Dick still wouldn't meet their eyes, glancing at the floor in earnest.

"You're beautiful." Jason said softly.

Dick's eyes snapped to look straight into Jason's, surprise clearly in them.

"What?" Dick voice croaked.

Smiling, Jason repeated what he had said before. "You're beautiful."

Dick's eyebrows creased with confusion. Beautiful?, he thought. As he gazed into Jason's eyes he only saw one thing, love. Love for him.

His eyes began to water and he looked down. Then, with an unknown urge to do so, Dick pushed Jason's hands away. Backing up, he brought his hands to his now wet face, trying to wipe the stream of tears.

Still wiping his face, Dick looked up and locked eyes with Jason's patient eyes.

"D-Don't say that." Dick said, his voice slightly shaky.

Jason's head tilted a little as he watched Dick.

"Why?" he said.

Dick sighed, "Because I'm not."

There was silence. Both looked at each other not saying a word.

Uncomfortable with the silence, Dick began to speak, and once he started he couldn't stop.

"I'm not beautiful. Sure, I might look fine, but I'm not beautiful. My personality is terrible. I'm selfish. I don't help as much as I should. Don't even let me start about you. Jason. I have never given enough for us. I'm a shitty person. I don't deserve this happiness. This relationship. You deserve better than-"

Dick's rant was stopped with Jason's hand being raised, his face showing a sad expression. He let his arm fall back down and slowly walked towards Dick. Once he stood in front of him, he grabbed his hands.

"But you are, baby. Don't ever think you aren't. We have our ups and downs, but nothing we haven't dealt with before." Jason said.

Then Jason snaked his arms around Dick's waist and pulled their bodies together for a hug. And all Dick did was nod his head listening to Jason's rough voice whisper sweet words into his ears as he melted into their embrace.
