Beh

A simple nickname, but it means the world to me. Why? Because it was given to me by a special person.

A special person na wala na ngayon sa tabi ko. It hurts like hell, but I can't do anything about it anymore.

She's happy, and if she's happy that'll be okay for me.

" Ate Bea! " one of my teammates, Jaycel, calls for me. " Today is the
day. "

I smile, hugging her. Tama siya, today is the day. Finals, game 3. A day I hope, that would end with tears of joy and all smiles.

I get in the bus with everyone, when Ate Mowna announces that we'll be going to the send off before going to the arena.

When the bus pulls over, I could hear the cheers of the fans. Our families and friends were also waiting for us. The amount of support that they've all been giving us is unreal.

I look around, desperately trying to spot her. Once I do, I smile. She was smiling down at Jaja, giving her words of encouragement. There's my girl, being the best ate.

Seeing her already boosted my confidence. Hindi na lang ako lalapit, baka gawan na naman ng issue yon.

A little while later, pumasok na kami ng bus ulit. I open the window, seeing her there, smiling at me. " Good luck " she mouthed, and I give her a thumbs up.

As promised, we brought the crown back to Ateneo. And not long after, they announced the finals MVP, it was very surreal.

I look around, trying to spot her again. I was almost sure that she wasn't here anymore. Did she leave?

I sigh, disappointed, but then I heard the nickname. " Beh! "

She was smiling at me, I instantly wrap my arms around her. A good 20 second hug. She was in tears when I pulled away, so I wiped her tears off, pulling her back into my arms.

A photographer approaches us and asks if we want a picture. I remove my medal and let her wear it. We were all smiles for that picture.

" Wait, isa pa. " sabi ko at tinuro yung likod ko.

" Oh, you want me to get on? " tanong ni Jho. Tumango naman ako.

She gets on my back and clings on to my neck. " BEHHH!! " she squeals, laughing.

I set her back down, smiling. She was about to say something, but Nico calls for her. Nico naman panira.

" I'll see you later beh. " she says and smiles softly. Tinanguan ko na lang siya at dumerecho sa dug out.

I am reading my speech for the people inside, when the door opens. She's here, she's really here.

When I finish my speech, I get off the stage real quick. The time I don't get to talk to her is agonizing. When everything was done, I rush out of the venue, searching for her again.

" Beh. " she calls out, signaling me to go where she was.

" Jh- Beh. " I say, sitting beside her. We were behind gesu, on a bench. It was dark but the light of the moon was enough for me to see that she was crying.

" Why are you crying? " I ask, a little frantic.

" I... I just miss you Bea. " my heart skipped a beat. " I miss us. "

" By us, you mean? " I ask, full of hope. She nods slightly.

" I miss us Bea, and my us I mean what we used to be. Sure, pinamukha natin sa lahat na best friends lang tayo but they never knew what happened outside the court, outside training, outside our Ateneo life. " she vents, crying.

" But... what about Nico? " I ask, trying my best to comfort her.

" 2 weeks na ata? 2 weeks na kaming wala. I don't know. Of course I realized that I missed you and... and I love you. And I'm here to ask if I'm too late." she says. I smile at her little cute speech.

" I wouldn't be here beside you if you were 'too late' beh. " I answer, pulling her into my arms, for the nth time today.

This girl, every time I see her, I fall for her more and harder. I am happy when she's happy but I think I'm happier if she's with me, in my arms.
