"IN THIS SECTION, we have all your favorite games, including of course, BRAILLE MONOPOLY!" Jude said, dragging me through the house. Apparently, he had been in charge of the set up and was very proud of himself.
"OVER HERE, we have ALL your favorite audio described movies!" He said as we got to the living room, and as we left it to go to the dining.
"AND FINALLY, we have all your favorite foods... aka Papa Johns and DUNKIN DONUTS!" Jude screamed, ending his tour. Seriously, it was a miracle any of us could still hear.
"And all that is courtesy of my mama by the way." Rolo added. He had been following us, along with his mom, my mom and Lotus.
"Oh it was nothing dear." I heard Rolo's mom say. She was a really sweet and kind lady. I heard her laugh as Rolo probably gave her a hug as he does every five minutes. I guess that's what being the baby of the house does to you. Rolo had four older siblings with a five year gap between him and them, so he grew up constantly running to his parents for refuge, especially his mom.
"Okay, what do you want to start with?" Jude asked me, I could hear him bouncing beside me, waiting for an answer... and probably some recognition for all his hard work.
They all deserved recognition. Apparently, they had been planning the party since I told them about the surgery on Wednesday. I hadn't expected them to do that. It felt really good, knowing I had people in my life that cared this much.
"Thank you," I said to them, "all of you."
They replied back with various versions of "it's no problem". Lotus came over and gave me a hug. I guess it took me potentially getting vision to make her go all soft and want to give hugs. I wasn't complaining though.
Suddenly Jude blurted out, "It was all Colby's idea anyways."
I felt myself go cold at the mention of his name. "Where's Colby anyways?" I asked, hoping I sounded nonchalant.
"He couldn't make it." Rolo said softly.
Lotus, who was still holding onto me, squeezed my arm, trying to comfort.
I smiled a small smile to let everyone know I was fine, and that it didn't hurt as much as it actually did.
"Okay, why don't we start with a movie!" Rolo's mom said, breaking the ice.
"Great idea mom!" Rolo joined in, leading the party to the living room. I didn't miss someone (most likely Lotus) smacking Jude and the yelp that followed as we made our way.
I was following them, when my mom called me back.
"Jessie?" She said, getting my attention. I turned to her and she placed a bag on my shoulder.
"Rolo told me it's going to be a sleepover so I packed a bag before you got home." She said.
I smiled gratefully. "Thanks mom."
"No problem." She responded. "I'm going to go now okay. Callie must be wanting her dinner by now."
I nodded, agreeing.
"And Jessie?"
"Yeah?"
She placed a hand on my cheek. "Have fun tonight. Everything is going to work out."
I sighed "So I've been told." I smiled again reassuringly.
"I'll be back by 6:45. Rolo's mom will bring the rest of the kids when it's done."
I nodded again. I felt the butterflies build up in my chest as she talked about it... the surgery, the possibility of me seeing. It made me so happy, even though I'll admit, I was a bit nervous.
