"Long day, huh?" Ella's voice ease Thomas's mind.
"You don't even know the half of it."
"I'll have the wine ready then."
"Thanks. You sure know how to spoil me."
"That's why you married me."
He felt the tension from the day start to melt away.
"That and you are the most beautiful woman alive."
"Sweet talker. I'll get the cheese out too."
"You're the best. I should be there in ten."
"Okay drive safely."
"Will do."
He couldn't wait to get home to be with his wife. They had been married twenty years and it still felt their honeymoon.
Just one more turn and he would be home to kiss his wife.
Red fog descended around him. It was both inside the car and outside. He couldn't see anything, but he heard a loud thud.
The brakes screeched when he stopped the car. The fog lifted.
He ran outside and found an old lady laying on the road.
"I didn't see you. The red fog. I'm sorry."
She whispered, "not your fault. They found me. My time. Mail." The stranger handed him a box and then she became still.
