Chp 1 - moving into a new hous-hostel?

Y/n POV
"Dad...why did you leave us? I miss you", I thought as i helded onto the slightly faded picture of me, my mom and my dad. It was the only memory of him that I had left. After his passing, my mother became depressed, agitated, and she threw away all memories of him, except this one which I managed to keep in hiding from my mother. I sighed as I put it into my box of belongings and closed the lid. "Well, that's all," I said as I looked around my bedroom, wardrobes empty and shelves bare.

"Y/n! What's taking you so long?" Mom shouted from downstairs. "The movers are already here!" I took a last glance at the only place I have ever called home, and ran down the stairs, struggling to see where i was going due to the stack of boxes I was holding.

"There you are, come on, let's go to your new hostel!" Mom said, as she took the boxes from my aching arms. ( the stairs are quite far from the porch.)

"Okay-wait...HOSTEL?" I almost screamed. Mom looked slightly startled, but quickly smiled. "Yes of course, since your school is quite a distance from our house, you will live in a hostel." I couldn't believe it...hostel?

That word kept repeating in my head. Hostel...alone...

"I thought we moved because my new school is too far away from here? Why do I have to stay in a hostel then?" I asked. "Y/n, we are moving because your school and my workplace is too far from here." Mom replied as she  non-chalantly got into the car. Workplace? Did she...

"Mom, is there something you did not tell me?" I asked as my hunch only got stronger. "Well yes I got a new job, does that answer your question now?" I sighed and ran my hands through my hair. My mom never tells me anything thee days and always left it to me to find out on my own. It was starting to get on my nerves. I got into the car and we drove off to my new hostel.

What was the hostel going to be like? Noisy or quiet? Were there going to be a lot of students from the same school or from different schools? Will i have roomates? As these questions piled up in my head, i slowly nodded off to sleep.

"Y/n, wake up, we're here!" I opened my eyes to the entrance of a hostel, it looked quite new which I was happy about, and diretly on its left was a school which I assumed to be my new school. It was the weekends so the hostel was kind of quiet. It was a 5 storey building with lots a windows thankfully. I would hate to be in a room with no windows or natural light. The entrance had glass doors, with a carpet that said welcome, and there was minimart and vending machine just inside the entrance. Maybe living in a hostel wasn't so bad. I could make new friends too. I quickly took out my boxes of belongings as well as my luggage and made my way towards the hostel. "Yah, are you not even going to say a proper goodbye? I'm not seeing you until the next term break you know? Also, remember, 1 and a half hourse of exercise a day and no fatty foods or drinks! If you gain more than 2kg when I meet you again, you're getting it from me." Mom called out from behind me, where she was still sitting in the car. I sighed when I heard her nag. She was always loved to make sure that I had a diet. But then again, I guess she was right, she was still my mom and i still loved her after all. "Alright, goodbye mom, i hope you do well in your new job," I said and gave a slight smile. She smiled and for the first time in a long while, the smile reached her eyes. Then she drove off. As she drove off, I thought maybe, just maybe, I might miss her while she's gone.

I turned around, looking at the high entrance porch looming over me, took a deep breathe and stepped inside.
