~ Measure 10 ~
I woke up to the sound of my phone buzzing on the dresser.
It was a text from my mom.
Emily baby I miss u. Plz come home to talk. Plz?
I shook my head. My phone buzzed again.
Can’t you at least answer me?
I refused to speak to her. She betrayed me. I looked down as my phone rang one last time.
Fine. But if you ever want to come home, we’ll be ready to welcome u back.
I put the phone down and walked away.
That’s where she was wrong.
I no longer had a home.

“Missing something?”
I turned to see Dylan standing behind me in the hallway. I turned around to see if he was talking to anyone behind me. He laughed.
“Nope, Emily, I’m talking to you.” he said.
“Me?” I said shyly, “Why?”
He held out a Biology book. I gasped.
“I’ve been looking all over for that!” I said, “Where did you find it?”
“You dropped it when you ran out last night.” he said.
I took the book from his hands and smiled. He was dressed nicely today. He had on a nice hoodie and jeans, and a spotless pair of Jordan’s. What is it with guys and shoes? And they say we’re obsessed…
“Thank you so much for returning it.” I said.
“It was nothing.”
Suddenly the bell rang and I reached down to grab my backpack, but Dylan stopped me.
“May I?” he asked. I was speechless.
“Sure.” I said. He put my backpack over his shoulder and motioned forward. We started walking.
