Taylor leaned on me slightly while standing in line, “So I can’t go?”
he asked again for the fifth time. “No” I say slightly more stern then the
last time. He looks up at me as if his staring was scaring me, “But all my
friends are going to be there, and no if they all jumped off a cliff I
wouldn’t”. “Okay, so no is the answer” I say. “But Tally” he whined.
“Taylor, if you ask again I’ll ground you” I said as I put the snacks for his
Christmas Party. “Can I have a good reason why I can’t go?” he asked, still
pouting. The truth was Taylor couldn't go because I didn't know trust that
kids parents to throw a decent sleep over. Some parents barely watched
their kids how were they going to watch other people kids. Taylor didn't
understand that though, all he knew is that I was being mean and keeping
him from having a good time.
“Did we get enough?” I asked looking at him, he sighed accepting
defeat he nodded. Smiling I tossed my arm around his shoulder and
dragged him along. “What should we do while you guys are out for two
long weeks?” I asked. “Can I really pick?” he asked with hopeful eyes. I
nod, “Tristan can pick a few and we will do the best”. “I want to go skiing”
he says, telling me how he came to the decision that he really wanted to
ski. I started to ponder just how much a ski trip would cost. I shivered a
little as we exited the store, and followed close behind him as he animatly
told me about how cool he’d look on a snowboard.
When we got home we took a vote and to my surprise even Tristan
thought it would be cool to go to the snow. “We live in california, we go to
the snow. We can choose a white christmas” she says as if the thought
just came to her. “Too bad we don't live in Hawaii” I muttered. “Why you
don't like the thought of a white Christmas?” she asked. “It's just cold”
and it is. Rolling her eyes, she stands up, “No duh, Tally, Ice is like that
frozen” I really wanted to hit her sometimes like other sisters did, but I
knew that would mean Taylor could hit her and that just was something I
didn't want to deal with, “So skiing it is” I say, clapping my hands. “Can
we go shopping for winter gear instead of a big gift this year?” Taylor
asked. I looked at Tristan she nodded as well. “I agree I might meet a sexy
mountain man” she cheesed, flipping her hair over her shoulder. Taylor snorted, “No one likes you here, do you think the lack of oxygen will
help?” Sighing I shake my head as they start to go at it, why did it have to
be this way? Why?
“So what do you have planned for the holidays?” Eve asked over
lunch. “The kids want to go skiing” I tell her calmly, looking at the
necklace she was wearing, “Do couples really do that?” I asked. She
blushed, “It's cute we even got shoes with each other faces on it”.
Looking at it the necklace it was kind of cute, I guess. “Sometimes Tally, I
think your older than me” she said. “Why?” I asked, looking at her. “You
just act older” she says. “You don't date, or like going out. Your only three
years younger, but I often feel like that” she said, shrugging. “Maybe it's
just because I’m immature”.
I felt like I was hearing that a lot that I was to old, or people forgot
just how young I was, I mean even I forgot how old I was sometimes.
“You should let me set you up with one of Fred’s friend” she said. “He
would be perfect for you, your complete opposite” she added. “Why
would he be perfect for me then?” I asked, I was making a joke, but by the
way her eyes popped I realised I missed my calling. I should of been an
actor. “I’m kidding, Eve” I add after a minute, she laughs loudly getting
the attention of others, but she does not notice or care. “But I can’t” I say.
“Ryan?” she asked, looking around she leans forward whispering. “We
really like you, Tally, and we all were thinking of telling you, but well
honestly Ryan is always cozy with Mr. Abello's secretary. It's kind of his
thing” sitting back comfortably in her seat, as if shen had lighten her load
by telling. I was uncomfortable now, for a second I thought of why Ryan
would befriend me. He comes off as a real friendly guy, but now that I
think back maybe it was all an act. He has nothing to gain from
befriending me or any of Leo’s past secretaries, except maybe angering
him.
For the rest of the day, I couldn't really stomach the thought that
Ryan wasn't really my friend. Or maybe he was just friendly to all the new
people and all the new people just happen to be Leo’s secretaries?
Resting my head flat on my desk I groaned pulling my hair, this justdoesn’t make sense, really. The more I think about it the more I wanted
to ask him. I had never in my life been liked for my status, it was a whole
new kind of betraying feeling. It wasn't like being stabbed in the back, it was like Mufasa standing on the cliff and instead of pushing him off he
just watched as his brother fell, at least then you know you saw a snake.
“I like short hair on you” Leo’s voice made me jump slightly sitting
up. “Sorry, sir” I say, Leo grins making my heart pound in my chest,
“Around this time of year business gets like that”, Sitting on the edge of
my desk he leans in looking at my face, a slight smile pulling on his lips.
“You look beautiful” I blink several times before lowering my head as my
heart skipped on. “We are still at work” I say low, unable to met his eyes.
“Yeah, but no one else is” looking at his watch he sighed sliding his hands
in his pockets.“Should we go on a date?”
I bite my bottom lip thinking about how if I got home now, I could
witness my siblings fight over who gets to pick tonights movie or
whatever show they wanted. If I had to watch any more Kardashians I
think I was going to puke, but I couldn’t let Taylor win either Nickelodeon
wasn't what it use to be. Besides, I was nineteen, as I and everyone else
forgot, I could afford to have fun, even if it was with my boss. What am I
thinking, get a grip, Tally, this is Mr. Abell-
“Beep, times up” he said, taking my hand in his he helps me up.
“Don't worry I won't seduce you this time either” he said, pulling me
closer so that our chest almost touching, looking down at me, he smiled
at me the smile that malfunctioned my whole body, looking up into his
deep endless blue eyes, I smiled to. “Don't tempt me, your only nineteen
still” he said, huskily. My own throat closed slightly, as I continued to
breath slowly out body still only grazing, I took my confidence from the
wind, taking a step closer so our bodies where just about hugging one
another. I looked down, unsure of myself, had I done it again? Was he
going to reject me twice now? My heart was pounding in my ears, I all I
could hear was how loud it was. I was always making mistakes with him.
He didn't speak, he stood closely pressed against me letting our
bodies talk to one another. I didn't know what they were saying, but itwas passionate. It seemed like eternity, but I wanted to know what he was
thinking, so I looked up and into his very serious pressed together face.
His lips where pressed tight together and his eyes focused completely on
me, this was a threat or maybe a warning, but this face didn't give me
butterflies. It gave me jitters. I was about to step away, when his arm
snaked out and around my waist pulling me even closer so that our
bodies where fitted with one another, lifting me slight to his eye level,
“I’m only human, Tally, a very weak one when it comes to you” he
whispered leaning down, my eyes widen as his closed. He was going to
kiss me. My first kiss. I squeezed my eyes closes unsure if I could watch
or not, this magical moment.
Ding.
Jumping. I almost leapt from his arms only he contracted keeping
me close to him as if the elevator had not completely startled him. When
the doors opened there I stood cradled in his arms, it seemed much more
horrible, but the face expression that they made as they stayed on the
elevator as it closed was even worse. We all locked eyes with one another
and then it was like ‘Door is now closing’ and they didn't get off and I
didn't move it was like one of the siccom only not so funny and much
more embarrassing to live through.
Standing up straight I looked at him, His eyes narrowed on me. I
looked back at the elevator, he took a step back as the elevator opened
again. This time they stepped off staring at us, Sky, Hillary, Eve, and Ryan
all stood uncomfortably in front of us. I didn't know what to say and
neither did they it seemed. “We just are going to see a movie or dancing,
wanted to know if… you, you know wanted to come to?” Eve said. “Yeah”
chipped in Sky. “Yes” I said, quickly looking for my bag. “If she coming,
then so am I” the way Leo said it made me feel the dread. “Well, sure, sir.
If you want” Eve muttered. I looked at him, but he wasn’t looking at me,
but straight ahead.
“Mr. Abello” I started. He turned to me looking down at his watch,
“It's passed duty hours, Tally”. My mouth open and close, before sighing,
“I actually can’t I had plans”. They all nod, “Another time than” jumped Sky onto the elevator. We both stood there staring at the sdoor till it
closed. “Right, like I was saying, for our date where would you like to go”
he said as if he was not just a murderous threat two seconds ago. Looking at him head to toe I only shook my head. “How do you do that?” “What?” he asked, smiling innocent, but it didn’t fit just right. “Switch from that to this” I asked. He only winked, “It comes with the job, Angel"
