Inside my Personal Paradise

We drove until nightfall. We were somewhere next to a farm, but close to a city. It was about eight at night, or so the clock says. I'm thinking about going to the city. There are probably people still alive out there. They can help me.

"Hey, Cass!" I said as she awakened. I realised she hasn't eaten in forever. I pulled over and picked up my pack and brought out some baby food. I didn't know much about the child. Even though she was my best friend's child, she was always with a nanny. Amil never really took care of her. She only knew what to not feed her, how to change a diaper, and what her favorite T.V show was. All I remember is that she can't eat strawberries and oranges because of the one time that's all she could afford. Way before she won the ten thousand dollar lottery, she and I lived together. She got pregnant with Cassiopeiae and really couldn't afford anything now. She spent all her money on the lottery, trying to win. The only thing that we could afford with my full time job and her spending everything on the lottery was the Forty- Seven cents strawberries and oranges. That's the only thing we could eat. If babies eat too much of something they become allergic to it. I laughed out loud remembering the times. The bad and the good. I looked over the baby food. Carrots and peas, perfect. I pulled out a plastic spoon and pulled Cass onto my lap.

After I was done feeding her I sat her down on the seat, strapping her with the blanket. I continued to drive to the city for a couple of minutes until we arrived within city limits.I saw the check in box and pulled up. I waited for a little bit, nobody from inside the giant concrete block spoke to me.

"Hello?" I asked. "Is anybody inside?" Nobody said shit. I pulled up more, realizing that the red and white blockers weren't there. Only stubble from where it was. I pulled up a but more and saw that the other side of the block was completely blown up. This must be closer to the asteroid. I must have gone the opposite direction of the way I wanted to go.

"Fuck." I shouted. "Everyone here is fucking dead!" I started to cry. Then scream. I got out of my car, slamming the door shut. I screamed at the emptiness. After doing that I went back into the car. Little Cassiopeiae had slept through all of that. I'll give her that.

"What do I do now?" I was almost empty so I decided to go into the city and see if any gas stations were still working.

I drove into the city. I past empty houses, cars full of dead people, people all over the streets. The closer I got to the middle of the city, the more people were just piled on the streets, against buildings. Children. Lot's of dead children. I glanced over at Cass. She was happily playing with a string attached to my backpack.

"There we go. Look Cass, we will be on our way to...wherever very soon. Let me just fill up this baby." We pulled up into a gas station and I unloaded. I needed a fucking bathroom. I re-strapped Cassiopeiae to my chest and slung my backpack over my shoulder and headed inside the gas station. The inside of the gas station was fucking huge. It had isles and isles of food and medical shit. It looked like the inside of a supermarket. I roamed around for a little bit. I found a clothing part, a kids section. Everything I could need. I headed for the kids section and got a real wrap for Cass. I set her down in one of the cribs and looked for new clothes. The old ones had holes and shit marks from never changed diapers. I emptied out the backpack and put everything into a pile. I got rid of her old clothes and the blanket and replaced them. I got a nice blanket and some new clothes. I ran over to the camping section and got a good backpack and water bottle. The ones Amil and I looked up on the library's Comms. We added the links and pictures to a document we created and called it: OUR TRIP TO EUROPE. We were so set on one day doing this that we made future boards and everything.

I picked up a Two Hundred dollar backpack that I knew we would never be able to afford. I carried the backpack to my pile and my baby. I stuffed her clothes and blankets in one of the front pockets. I went over to the feminine isle and grabbed some pads and tampons. I went to the food isle and got more bars and filled my water bottle with cold water. I grabbed baby food and whatever else I could get. I shoved everything into my pack. I pulled Cass into my arms and looked around. I could sleep on some blankets in the kids section. This place is like a supermarket and gas station combined. I wonder if there is a bed section. There was no bed section. But I did find a small kids tent, and Cassiopeiae and I slept until morning.

I woke up to Cassiopeiae crying. I tried to find out why. I tried changing her diaper, cozying her, and eventually I realized she was hungry. Not wanting to waste any of our food I went back over to the baby place. I grabbed some banana baby food and spooned it in her mouth. After she was done I made sure I had everything and went to go fill up the car, or find a better one. As I was walking out I checked the Comms to make sure that they weren't working. None of them were. But I did find some writing on the wall. It was a bunch of spray paint, directed to someone.

"Ally, we have gone to New Dyst. It's in old day Markrets. The Dystopian city. Hurry we miss you. Love Danny." Now I didn't know who any of these people are. But all I know is that they just saved my ass.

I walked outside and into the street, looking for a bigger car to temporarily live in. Markrets was three hundred miles away. Then I saw her. A minivan. Not good for rock roads but it's going to be good for living in. An old woman was inside. She looked like she had been rotting for a while. I wonder how long I had been out? I moved the woman out of the car and grabbed the keys from her lanyard. I started the Car and it roared to life. I drove it into the gas station and filled it up on gas. I ran back inside the store and put everything I could fit in the car into a cart. About an hour and a half later I had the entire minivan decked out. It had pillows, blankets, I had all the seats down in the back so we have all the space we needed. I even had a little space for Cass. I set her down in her new car seat and blasted the AC.
