After twenty minutes of driving I saw it. The gas station. It was small, only had about four pumps, but the girls car was almost empty so I gave a sigh and pulled in.

It was eight at night and I think that Cass was tired, I also read in a stolen baby book that you should have a routine for the baby, that way they don't bite and have mental problems when they are older. I started reading these books when I realized whether I liked it or not, I had a child and I needed to take care of her. The books I read were in this little for sale box in the station. The station had some really good food, raman, all these little Japanese candies, granola bars, frozen pizza, baby food, everything I would need in terms of food and drink needs. But there were no pacifiers or blankets or anything, there were toothbrushes and tampons. Thank god for that. Cassiopeiae was hungry so I gave her some bananas and mango baby food, I also took a normal plastic coffee cup and let her drink water from that. I packed the car up with food, water, some more books, and toilet paper. I went back into the station and picked up Cassiopeiae. That's when I heard it. Someone was running towards the gas station. I ran into the bathroom and hid inside. Whoever it was burst into the station, they locked the doors and hide somewhere. I could hear their heavy breathing. What I heard next sent shivers down my spine. It was the sound of those awful mutts. I unlocked the door and left Cassiopeiae on the baby changing station. I cracked open the door a little bit and assessed my surroundings. There were some utility stuff to my right. A plumber, a kitchen knife and some sporks. I went for the knife. I ended up knocking over some stuff in the process. Damn granola bars. I thought.

"Hello? I'm not going to hurt you, please. I just came to get away from those-" He was cut off by the sound of barking. The person sounded male and had a deeper voice. "Things." He continued. I edged my way around the isles. I saw someone cowering behind the only counter.

"Who are you?" I asked.

"My name is Jordan. I am twenty three years old, I use to live in New Jersey until I moved here for some stupid reason. I have no weapons and if I come out with my hands up I want you to promise you wont kill me." I shuddered just thinking of me killing someone.

"Come out with your hands on your head and don't make a sound." I whispered. The dogs were getting closer and closer, there loud barks ringing in my ears. A tall boy came out from behind the counter, he had dark brown hair, green eyes and a brownish tint to his skin color.

"I was seeking shelter from the dogs. I mean no harm." He pleaded with his voice and eyes.

"Door is locked?'' I asked him quietly. He seemed surprised at how calm I was, to be honest I was surprised myself. I didn't know I could be so calm.

"Yes. The door is locked and we should be safe." He looked at me, I looked at him. I scanned his body. Not in a creepy way, but in protective way, I had a baby girl now. When I was done making sure I didn't see any weapons I met hit eyes.

"You can stay here until they leave. You can take as much as you like, I'm leaving for the city in the morning."

"New Dyst?" He asked.

"You have heard?"

"Who hasn't, it was all over the news a little bit ago that some crazy couple had made some sort of safe haven for when the apocalypse comes. Nobody believed them but now everybody knows where to go. A lot of people I have met up with where going there."

"How far away is it?"

"A couple of days drive from here. If your going- well I don't have a car.. I was wondering if it wasn't too much trouble, if I could-" He was cut off by the sound of glass shattering, loud barking and a baby cry. Cassiopeiae. I ran into the bathroom and saw one of the windows were half cracked, a dog trying to get in. Cass had a gash along the side of her left cheek and it was bleeding pretty bad. Jordan ran in after me.
