I finally got a chance to get a little sleep over the last couple of hours. I slept like a baby right his car as we made our was to one of the busiest cities in the United States. I leaned my seat back up and looked out the window.
It was light outside and the birds chirped, signaling it had to be maybe 7 or 8 o'clock. I turned my head to the left and my eyes landed on a sleepy Rodrick who drove with one hand on the steering wheel and the other trying to support his head.
"Um...do you need me to drive." I said feeling kind of bad.
I got a chance to catch a good amount of sleep and here he is. Barely able to keep his eyes open. He glanced at me with tired eyes and shook his head slightly.
"Nah, Im straight. You good?" He questioned. I almost smiled to myself for a quick second.
How in the world is he possibly worried about me and im seeing if he's okay. The nigga just got shot not too long ago.
I huffed, "Rodrick, im fine. The question is are you?"
Before I drifted off to sleep he kept apologizing to me about what happened at the hotel. And multiple times I told his ass it was okay, I'll handle Cordell someday.
He chuckled slightly, "Im good Jhene, no bullshit."
I responded with a simple "Okay." Not feeling the need to keep pushing on him, even though I know he wasn't telling the truth. "You hungry?" He blurted out as we passed a medium sized body of water. "Yeah." I stated, looking out the window at the water in the side mirror.
I feel like a damn fish sometimes. Just stuck in the same position and place. No freedom like the birds. To fly away from all of their problems and going where the wind takes them. I've been a fish for as long as I can remember, but once all of this shit with Meek is over I promise I'll become the bird i've always wanted to be.
The car veered to the right taking the exit that read 90 A. "It's a IHOP somewhere over here." Rodrick said speeding up trying to make the light once he exited off the highway. I started preparing myself for the meal I was going to order. I always got the same thing, every single time.
I reached up to pull down the flap that has the small mirror and light to look at myself. I slightly fixed my hair and Rodrick pulled into the empty parking space of the restaurant. "Aight, we here cuh." He said unlocking his door and stepping out into the warm air.
I followed suit and closed the door behind me glancing over at him. The sun beamed on his brown skin and blessed his hazel eyes making them even lighter than they actually were. "You like what you see?" He asked me while licking his lips.
He's so fucking cocky yo.
"No sir." I said, chuckling and walking ahead of him into the double doors. I just lied through my damn teeth.
