Dean put down the controller and sighed. He'd finally beat The Last of Us, and had nothing to do.
He turned on pandora and switched the stations till he found a Metallica song, then laid down on his bed, bored. He wished he had another game, but he knew his mom would claim them too expensive.
Mary had a hard time with her job sometimes. She sold insurance, and while that could be fine she also had two sons to take care of.
He sighed and went to his computer. Netflix had added Avengers, and he could always watch that again.
He turned on his computer and was about to click on the icon when he had an idea. He went on Google and searched up the instructions for chess. He and Cas would finally have something in common.
Dean would never admit it to Castiel, but Cas was one of his only friends. Sure, he was on the soccer team, but they just weren't interested in what he was interested in. Neither was Cas, but at least he would pay attention. And Cas knew enough about it that he could talk about it back.
He frowned at the instructions for chess. This was not at all simple to him. He squinted at the screen, determined to learn it. It wasn't easy. What the hell did a bishop do?
He finally half way understood it, and went to sleep slightly less confused.
He woke up and got dressed in his usual outfit, along with his dad's leather jacket. it was the only good thing John left, besides the Impala.
Sam was already downstairs when he went to eat.
"Hey what are you doing after school Sam?" he asked.
"Probably gonna head to Jess's," he replied, "and you're gonna have Cas over. I don't even have to ask."
"That's not true I could have Garth over or something."
Sam looked up at him. "As if."
Dean shrugged and left. He got in the impala and drove to pick up his friend Charlie, who still didn't have her drivers license. She blamed on rigged testing due to sexism, he said it was her being scatter brained.
"Hey Dean Bean!"
"Charlie quite trying to find a nickname for me. It's not gonna happen."
"Whatever Deany."
They drove to school while Charlie talked about her comics and latest celebrity crush, which was Scarlett Johansson for now.
Dean mostly tuned it out and made hmm comments when he had to say something. He pulled into a parking space and called bye over his shoulder to Charlie. He sighed as he walked in. Chemistry was his first class, and it was killer.
Leaning back in his chair, he tried his hardest to pay attention. But to him, absorption spectrum didn't qualify for what he needed in life. Of course, that wasn't helping his D+. His mom was going to get him a tutor, but he said he should get to pick the tutor, whoever that was.
On the opposite side of the room Cas was sitting straight up and scribbling in his notebook. Geez, he's never gotten below an A- before.
Dean mentally smacked himself for not thinking of it sooner. Castiel could be his tutor! Thank god to that to, cause he'd be damned if some crotchety old guy was to teach him.
Dean met up with Cas in the lunchroom along with Charlie and their quirky friend Garth. "Hey Cas, mind being my tutor for chemistry?"
Cas blinked in surprise. "Sure, I can come over today."
Dean gave a cocky smile. "Perfect. meet me at the bike rack."
"Fine by me."
"Oh," Dean added, "I also learned something that might be interesting."
Charlie rolled her eyes. "Always with the theatrics aren't we Dean?"
Castiel also rolled his eyes. "What might that be?"
"It's a surprise, can't tell you."
Garth laughed and told Cas, "I'm sure that'll be fun. Tell me how it turns out."
"Yeah, I sure will," said Cas suspiciously.
Dena just smiled and opened his mouth to add in, but as soon as he did, the bell rang" he shrugged shoulders and got up to get to his locker.
It was nicer that Cas had chess club. By the time he was finished with it, Dean was done with soccer.
Soccer was the best sport in Dean's opinion. Football was just so stereotypical, and he had no hand-eye coordination anyway. But with soccer he was just able to let go of everything else. Not to mention he was actually good at it.
As he practiced drills, his mind wandered over to Cas. It had been nice of him to tutor him. My saving angel, he thought. It was true, really. Cas had always been there. He was a really good- but friend didn't cover it. Best friend? No, that didn't work either.
Well what else could Cas be? Unless Dean was... gay or something, Cas was his best friend.
He was shook from these thoughts by his coach yelling at him to pay attention. Dean shook his head and focused on the drills in front of him, scolding himself for his mind wandering. He'd meet Cas for tutoring, and that would be that.
