"So you are telling the truth?" Justina says as she hands me a can of soda. After she caught me sneaking off to the club, she waited for me until my shift, which was about three hours long, was over. Telling her everything about how I ended up stripping will be a bit difficult, especially since I've never opened up to anyone about it.
At least Justina's in a better mood because she is not the most approachable person when she's mad.
"Yep." I answered as I opened up the can slowly.
"So, does this make you a slut?"
"What? No!" I protested "Well...I don't really know."
"How don't you know?"
"Well, I'm not very good at being a slut. Mainly because I don't like jumping right into things, you know? I just have trouble forgetting my clients, even though I don't want to them into boyfriends or a person I regularly hook up with. But our experience together will play over and over again in my mind and honestly, I would rather forget."
"That's messed up, you know that, right? I really don't understand why you strip if you feel that way about it." She says, intensely eyeing me which makes me shrink further into her leather couch.
"It's not that bad, it's actually really fun."
"I don't see how."
"I think it's fun if you prefer not to sleep with your costumers."
"So, why exactly did you start this lap dancing fiasco?"
Gosh, this felt like an interview, or a test.
"The money, isn't that obvious?"
"Come on, spill the fucking beans. Tell me everything."
"Okay,okay. I'll tell you. But it's a long story."
"I've got the time.."
"It's midnight and the story is like really, really long. I mean like climate-change-documentary-plus-ads long."
"I don't mind the wait, I could've been at a party right now."
"Well...it all started after a huge fight I had with my mom. I won't depress you with the details, but I ended up leaving home." I paused to take a sip. "And of course I didn't have a place to stay in, so I crashed on Daniel's couch.
"Daniel?"
"Daniel's my cousin."
"Ohh, continue."
"Yeah. I soon found a job in an Amish market. Everything went smooth and for a moment there, I thought I had figured things out. But things went downhill when I got fired three weeks into the job."
"And why was that?" Justina asks as she she is clearly intrigued by this story.
"Hey, do you want to hear about me stripping or how bad I am at my job?"
"Stripping." She sighed.
"I thought so. So after I got fired, Daniels baby mama got grouchy. She complained about me living on the couch and how it wasn't good for the children and all that crap. So to wrap things up, she wanted me gone. Can you believe her?"
"I know right? How can you sleep at night knowing that you practically just sent a seventeen year old to the streets?"
"Tell me about it. But I don't think she sleeps well-- she has three kids and only one is Daniel's."
"How do you know that, are you sure?"
"I am as sure as hell."
"It can't be true, it might be a rumour."
