She ran as if the wind; Thorns and brambles pelting her in the face making it a sore peachy red. The dense overgrowth in forest crosshatched her path holding the girl back, jittering from the harsh cold. Her long noir hair cascading down her pale brown face and beady hazel eyes. Annalise stopped to breathe in the center parting of the forest. Serenity at last.
This scenario started a week ago, when the flooding had passed. Annalise King sat up in the accommodation center with her older Brother, Jayden King to her left side. The rickety thin white barred beds were awkward and absolute hell to sleep on especially as she had to sleep next her brother who was 16. Beds were rationed as aluminum and iron was in scarcity; there was at a maximum of 5 to a double bed so everyone was in crowed conditions. The CAAC (Climate associated accommodation center) was falling apart itself- beige paint peeling off the walls and the oak flooring curling at its sides from water damage. It looked like a decaying prison with rows upon rows of beds- like a modern Holocaust camp with less deaths. Jayden's friend, Zaccaria, had died a 3 days before due to the unsanitary conditions. Although still grieving, he still smiled. His short scruffy black hair, dark sharp eyes and bright skin complemented him but you could see his pain inside.
Annalise sat reading, that was how she spent the majority of her days, muting out the noise of screaming babies and procrastinating adults until the mayor spoke, "People of Helsire, it is safe to go outside. The floods have receded so start remaking your life's once again."
Annalise muttered, "Its hard for you to understand as you still have an abundance money in your bank."
Jayden's laughed echoed making everyone turn and stare. Annalise covered her face in embarrassment but people turned back after a minute to her relief. "Citizens go!" Mayor said and his subordinates opened the doors. Absolute detonation was seen.Concrete pavements were shattered and sewage was still on the streets. It was late evening and the sun was quietly setting in the center of the pavilion surrounded by damaged homes. Weeping and distraught could be heard throughout the square, Annalise just stood watching expressionless. "Anna!" the repetitive call from her mother broke through the darkness, "Come on! Your brother has gone down our road but its now closed for some odd reason."
Annalise went, without any hesitation, down the broken concrete jungle boarded by the murky green sea. Plastic floated clearly on the surface, succumbing to the algae which will eventually mutilate the musing sight of water. As she was walking upwards, the streets were deserted. She pondered around looking for her brother's tall, slim, slanted physic but he was nowhere to be seen. Annalise looked at her scared arms. Slashes upon slashes on her arms, some in which were cover by black scabs, waltzed around her arms like stairs or a tattoo. She promised that she would never do it again to her late stepfather but things had become unbearable for her and she can't bottle it up to herself no more. She continued walking casually along the broken roads until she heard a faint rustling noise from what remained of the bush. "Hello..." She called out beckoning for a answer. Loneliness among a silent road is deafening. Annalise suddenly felt four warm hands caressing her body and then pulling her close to them. She stood stationary for a moment then turned around in surprise to see her brother, Jayden, and his best friend, Viktor. She had a sense of relief run through her body to the fact it wasn't two random old pensioners. There smile beamed at her then it turned a into a disappointed frown. "Annie why didn't you run, like, we were expecting that or even to give us a bloody punch" complained Viktor in shock.
His bristol accent really was apparent which is surprising after living in the rural part of England for 6 years. "Well you are really shy and you even have a phobia of the police, I mean, c'mon" Jayden added, "But you should know better, cause, we care about you know"
Annalise groaned when she heard that, she didn't like it especially when they would sell her down a river for £2. Viktor flipped his shoulder length light blonde hair and looked at Jayden, "What can you do aye?"
I interrupted, "Mom wants us to go back to her in the pavilion, Viktor you can come to."
They both nodded so they walked back ploddingly.Viktor and Jayden parented Annalise as both her mother was drug addict and father had left them, so never really cared or gave her guidance. When their mother got abusive, both Jayden and Annalise would stay at Viktor's house for a month at the most. Viktor only has his father as his mother got taken by the harsh winter tide. "You two and... Mr rich sky eyes" The siblings mother rolled their eyes, "let's go home to get your stuff or what remains of it."
So they travelled back down the discarded pathway to 13th Foraiday street the olive green door and wilting plants welcomed best forgotten memories. Mother King put out the cigarette in which she had lighted and opened the padlocked door; The smell of rain is still thick as well as the sent of wet cat surprisingly, "Richie," Mrs King called.
"If your going to call me by a nickname, please just one for crying out loud." Viktor complained his calm baby blue eyes enraged by the siblings mother's constant rude comments.Annalise ran inside and up to her once pastel blue room anxiously to see if her belongings had been raided. She sighed, nothing has been taken and then she started packing. She took out all her hoodies and folded them neatly; put the pictures of her, her brother and her late-stepdad away; put her school uniform and her books away in her large suitcase. Then suddenly there was a tap on the door. "Yes?" She proclaimed.
"Aye Princess its me," Viktor sighed...
